What's new

Coronavirus (COVID-19) (SARS-CoV-2)

Thank you!! It also irks me when you see people putting socioeconomic issues and confusing, purposely or unknowingly, them with physical differences between people. Dark skinned people typically have lower vitamin D levels and that's backed up by medical science, vitamin D is shown to have massive health benefits and helps your immune system, yet you have that topic being censored and spun. It's crazy what's going on and shows the toxic two sided split of the country and the disinformation campaigns that we are victims of get in the way of facts and important information to the people who need it.

I am of 100% belief that if we shut down social media for 3 months this virus would fizzle out. That's partly sarcastic and partly serious.

Yeah, it would be a far more effective and far more beneficial idea to recommend dark skinned people take a vitamin D supplement than it would be to simply jump to social and politically motivated talking points. I'm not saying their aren't social factors involved in our healthcare system, but the virus doesn't give a shit about your social or political stances. There needs to be more communication directed at helping people avoid exposure to this virus.

But, therein, lies the problem. In modern times, since progressivism has taken root, as a whole the citizenry sees .gov as the answer to things. In the U.S. where we are a republic, all too many see the feds as those with answers. With this pandemic, things are and have been different (culturally as well as actually) all across different cities, counties and states. Everyone wants fast and easy, but there is no fast and easy without trampling individual and states rights.

But, with that, comes the inferred God-complex of having to have all the answers. So, communication is jarbled as feds try to appear in control and knowing, then some governors are populistic with their approach and utilize the God-complex and pretend to know more than the common person. Not to mention all of the supposed experts on something brand new, to which there can be no experts.

To go along with that, your assertion that "authority" is part of the experiment is probably the most blatant part of all of this. Reaches of authority seems to be what has been experimented in a lot of states and cities

I will say for all the shit the feds have been given, I do like they have left this as a state level response. This country is huge, climate is different all over, you cant have blanket policy covering evreyone. People should also take note that the first institutions to start restricting entry or even shutting down were private companies doing it voluntarily then the .gov came in behind them and responded as a lagging reaction. Force does not get you a good response out of people, it gives you pushback especially in the US. Compelling people to do the right thing with factual, consistant, not biased information and letting them make the decision works out far better. Having a central government source for the information doomed this from the beginning.

So it now ranges from feeling perfectly fine, to diarrhea, to shortness of breath, to falling over dead and evreything in between. Yet no one sees why people are skeptical of the messaging and choosing to ignore protocols and accept risk?

Confused? You won't be after this episode of "Soap"

i did say doubling is exponential growth, it is also a pretty low power exponent. of course, we are well past 15 weeks of dealing with this and still don't have 100% permeation despite previously a much higher rate.

it is still predominately a "city" or "cluster" problem. we are seeing this growth going from city to city as drivers.

Yeah, it's definitely primarily a cluster problem as was predicted and it's not doubling in most states. It's only a select few. It's just that those select few have some clear commonalities in their approach - or more accurately - lack of approach to reduce the spread of this virus. Wearing face masks and practicing basic social distancing measures works to greatly reduce the spread. Refusing to wear one doesn't make anyone cool and tough. It makes them selfish and reckless potentially infecting someone vulnerable to severe illness from this virus.

I find it baffling how there has been limited or even suppressed talk about losing weight, eating a balanced diet and getting outside and exercising during all this. You need to equip your body to fight this, we have been since the dawn of life, sitting around your house anxious, reading social media, worrying about going bankrupt, inhaling recirculated air, drinking booze and eating takeout is not conducive to health or helping your body fight off potential threats we dont have a cure for.

Seven states are reporting new highs for current coronavirus hospitalizations, according to data tracked by The Washington Post — Arizona, Arkansas, California, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas —

The World Health Organization said the global pandemic’s hotbed is now in Latin America, which has reported 100,000 fatalities as of this week. New flare-ups have also been reported in Australia, Germany and South Korea.

Tisk tisk. Looks like you're coming mighty close to body shaming here. Reality doesn't matter anymore, only feelings and emotions.

Citing a “very concerning” climb in coronavirus cases, New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham (D) said Thursday the state is not ready to enter the next phase of reopening businesses.

In many places, the number of people sick enough to be hospitalized has also increased sharply. Those hardest hit include the largest states — California, Texas, Florida — and those that thought they had the virus under control, like Utah and Oregon.

A body mass index over 30, not 40, puts you at risk for severe COVID-19 infection regardless of your age, said CDC Director Robert Redfield, MD. So does chronic kidney disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and type 2 diabetes.

Redfield and Jay Butler, MD, the CDC's deputy director for infectious diseases, held a media briefing today to discuss new guidelines concerning who is most at risk for severe COVID-19 complications. They warned that 40% of Americans are obese and 60% have at least one chronic health condition. Though risk does increase with age, that's likely because older Americans are more likely to suffer one or more co-morbidities.

If you are at risk for severe illness, Redfield urged physical distancing.

"The most powerful tool we have is social distancing, the virus is not efficient going 6, 7, or 10 feet between people," said Redfield. "If we can also practice vigilance in hand hygiene [those are] really two powerful tools as we go into fall and winter."

No mention to lose weight, get sunlight or take a supplement anywhere in there.:shaking:

When asked about the rising cases in the West, Redfield said he was focused on the consequences of those cases.

"We need to look at hospitalization, mortality, and death, and the disruption of the economy and school system," Redfield said. He also said the increase in cases in those states is linked to testing asymptomatic, younger patients. In March and April, asymptomatic patients were not tested, he said, and serologic surveillance data from the CDC suggest that in those early months of the pandemic, every positive case in the United States represented 10 positive but untested cases.

Though he said the increasing case counts were cause for concern, Redfield said the country was in a different situation today than in March or April.

"Two months ago, 25% of deaths in the country were due to COVID, pneumonia, or influenza-like illness," he said. "Now that's down to 7%."

As of early June, New York state, Connecticut and New Jersey accounted for about 30% of total cases in the nation and 42% of deaths, although new cases have been dropping in these three states. Across the country, other large, populous states such as California, Illinois and Texas have high totals as well.

In Southern states, some epidemiologists also are cautioning about what they are calling a "reverse summer effect," with warm weather - once thought to interrupt the spread of the virus - driving residents into indoor spaces with recycled air.

yep, just like it does with the common colds and flus. these are your experts, folks

just shut the fuck up and listen to others

there is not a single logical argument that infections and hospitalizations are on the rise across the country. a fucking hospital laying off employees has zero, absolutely nil to do with covid hospitalizations. they are being laid off BECAUSE OF covid. Hospitals don't have their regular patients from elective shit.

It has a lot to do with COVID hospitalizations. What it says is there aren't even enough COVID patients to utilize the staff they currently have, which equates to empty beds.

But, just keep posting. Your ranting is quickly becoming the best amusement today. I particularly enjoy how fired up you get over a message board.

What are YOU reading when you read something like this? All I'm seeing "increased sharply." I'm definitely not reading ICU's overwhelmed, dead people every where, we're all going to die. Enlighten me.

"ranting". if it makes you feel better sport

I AM FIRED UP. I am ready to fight. you got me there..... fucking imbecile

did you type that with a straight face?

Maybe you read a different language

since i work for a large corporation in the middle of the metroplex. i find it strange since we never shut down. worked 7 days a week with thousands of people. and still not one death, pretty weak pandemic. with all the crap in the news you would think i would know or worked with someone who died from it. maybe next week. anything to get the sheep fired up i guess.

He said record highs. I guess new highs could be considered "record highs", but we are still far from over-whelming the health care industry. Locally they are putting nurses on furlough because they have no patients.

You don’t say? What else would you consider it?

How you word it is based on how much of a drama queen you want to be. In your case, 100% drama queen so you use the scary phrase of “record highs” because that will strike more fear. Or if you want to just report facts you can say “new highs”.

Let’s be real, when the first patient was hospitalized that was the new record high. So, do you say “there’s been a new record high of hospitalizations” or “ the first patient has been hospitalized”? The Left, aka Drama Queens, will use the former to further an agenda.

Ok, you are making life entirely too hard for yourself. Hospitalizations are a rate per day. It’s not a cumulative number. It has zero to do with drama

I’ve typed all of this with a straight face. This is the funniest shit I’ve read all day.

If we were to fight, would we have to use 8’ long sticks? Or would we stay in our cars and throw rocks or something at each other? Social distancing and all.
