I purchased a millstone for a fountain I am building. I need to core a hole in the middle for the water to come through. 2-3” on the hole and the millstone is about 5-6” thick. This a DIY project or should I take it somewhere and have it done? Maybe United rentals has a bit and drill to do this?

What’s the type of stone is the mill stone made of? If it’s not two hard a hammer drill with a core drill should do it.

I’ve looked a LOT at millstone fountains, i didn’t even think you could find a stone without a hole. I’d use masonry bit & a hammer drill (that’s a 1” bit i think, but I used it similarly to your application).

I don't think I'd use impact tools on it but I'm far from a expert.

A temu core but in a drill would be easy.

That I don’t know. Maybe granite.

This will be the end product. I refuse to pay 8k-15k for something I can do myself.

Do not use a hammer drill. Rent a core drill, it will go through it like butter.

This might be the best bet. Build a flat platform so the base can sit flat.
I don't think he even needs the vacuum drill setup just a handheld SDS or good 1/2 chuck drill.

DaduoRi 2-1/4" Concrete Core Drill Bit with 3 Adapters: SDS Plus, SDS Max and 1/2" Hex Shank, 5/8"-11 Arbor, 9.5" Drilling Depth, 2.25" Dry Diamond Core Bits for Brick Block Soft Masonry (No Pilot) Amazon.com

use a diamond bit, you can get them on ebay for stupid cheap with a wierd m22 arbor thread, just double nut some 5/8" allthread in the arbor hole and drive it with your cordless drill

I have really good drills so that’s an option. But if Dome Depot rents the core drill and bit for 80 bucks for 4 hours that seems like the best bet!

Stand on it with your feet in a V. Have the drill tilted back towards you just a little. Use your feet to keep it from jumping around. Once you get a full going you can stand it up straight. As mentioned above, just enough water to make the slurry bubble out. If its pushing clear water that's to much.
