What shit have you bought that was subpar?

I bought some "Grease Monkey" brand mechanics gloves and on the first wear they are coming apart. I threw them on for changing doors and the fake leather is just falling off from that.

I am less than impressed with tillman brand welding gloves. Stitching and durability of the leather itself is pretty lame.

They are all shit. I've tried everything from stupid expensive to the cheapest gloves, and they all suck. You are lucky to get a week out of the most expensive Mechanix brand gloves if you use them every day. Get oil, grease or anything else on them and they last an even shorter amount of time.

Thick ass rubber/nitrile gloves are my go to's now. Usually Diamond Grip brand unless im on the road and can't find them.

Which modle. Theres about 30 different gloves.
my favorite for my left hand in the 1266. With integral snap on heat pad. Right hand is just a regular glove. Ive been liking the bxs black ones lately.

I wear Tillmans till they curl into a claw and shrink so much my paw won't fit in them anymore. Takes 2 weeks to 6 months depending on how much welding I'm actually doing.

I used to do the same with tillman tig gloves. I used them for mig welding.

Best mechanic work gloves are the cut resistant nitrile coated ones. This style: https://www.amazon.com/SAS-Safety-6773-05-SafeCut-XX-Large/dp/B01CNEB8IS?tag=91812054244-20

Put on a disposable nitrile glove, then put those over them. The liner glove keeps your hand clean and the outer glove keeps it from getting torn up. They last forever. I have a pair I've been using at my junkyard job that have lasted a year. They're disgusting and grease saturated but still get the job done. I re-use the inner gloves too, usually get a few days use out of one pair of disposable's before they tear.

The ones coated with anything other than nitrile seem to blister up and soften when exposed to oil & gas so they don't last.

Used to buy a lot from Heleta (formerly Bullet), they advertised pretty heavily on the other site. Ended up being not much better a value proposition than the Harbor Freight ones, which also disintegrate quickly. Feel like there was another vendor on the old site for consumables that also didn't impress me. Everything in my garage now (just looked, i'l sitting out here) is Sait for cutting wheels (both ferrous and non-ferrous) and Lehigh Valley Abrasives for flap wheels, both sourced through LVA. The Sait wheels last a shitload longer than anything I've ever used and their house-branded flap wheels are super fat and go on forever as well.

x2 on the Mechanix gloves being shit. I use the thin cotton gloves with the nitrile coating now (no specific brand, just whatever is on sale) and I like them a lot.

HF sawzall blades suck but everyone already knows that.

Harbor Freight cut wheels... they were cheap as hell but they wore out quick and frequently blew up spectacularly:eek: I got sick of shit hitting the face shield or by it.

I haven't touched them in 20 years.

I use the HF cutting wheels. I think they wear kinda quick but I'd never blown one up. Maybe they've changed.

I used to use the HF ones and the old blue and black ones were pretty good, but then they changed to the green ones and they seemed to wear away much faster. I started buying HM abrasives in bulk off e-bay and have had great luck with them!

I'll be the first to admit that I'm a bit abusive on cut wheels:homer:

Who is HM?

I use either the Home Depot ones or the Roake "cheap" ones. Either seem to last pretty well and rarely blow up... usually an issue with the grinder starting to bounce.

What are you guys using for pvc coated gloves? I'm using Wells Lamont and using a boot/glove dryer I get a week out of a pair. Just buy in bulk?

Don't get PVC coated, they soften, peal and tear off. Get the nitrile coated cut resistant work gloves, look like this:

I deliver diesel, mostly fleet fueling, and the cloth back side is a no go for me.

That's why I wear a disposable nitrile glove under them. That keeps fluids off the hand, and the outer glove keeps the inner from getting nicked and leaking. If they can survive junkyard drain rack use, they'll do fine fueling equipment. Best part is your fingers are still dexterous since the gloves are thin and a snug fit.

Good idea, I'll have to give it a shot. I like the thicker nitrile gloves but they are harder to come by ATM and the plain ones are too thin to survive on their own

Gotcha, makes a ton of sense.

The Bosch bandsaw blades for my metal bandsaw. It's a 64.5" blade like the HF bandsaw. The Bosch blades are sold at Lowe's and Home Depot and they last about one day of good cutting.

I will never buy dewalt brand grinding discs and cutoff wheels again, fucking garbage.

my BIL loves those things. That is all he will buy.

They are definitely better than the HF discs that I buy. I am cheap :homer:

I used to buy bandsaw blades from Grizzly for my saw because it is kinda a hard to find length 82" long, 3/4" wide and 0.035 thick. So I didn't have many off the shelf places to buy them from. They worked ok, but would usually break at the weld after a while with good teeth on them still which would piss me off. I finally found sawblade.com and ordered from them. Around $26 per blade as opposed to the $40+ per blade that I was paying through Grizzly. And they are a high quality bi-metal blade that cut great and seem to be annealed much better as I have had hardly any weld breaks since switching to them. You might try ordering through them, I sure have been happy with them.

Oh and one thing I will avoid buying from HF is those single edge razor blades that you put in scrapers. Those things are worthless because they are so brittle.

Yes, that's all I will buy from anymore. I usually get my order in 2 days from them. I buy for myself and lcoal shop. Local shop likes to stay cheap and keeps buying ebay, menards, of HF bulk junk packs. I hate them. But I do usually get the ceramic stuff as it cuts faster.

Overpriced and garbage IMO.

Yeah that's my opinion of the bigger cut off blades as well. Other stuff dewalt branded works okay just overpriced.

Surprised at the Mechanics gloves, I still run their leather ones and they hold up pretty well. Maybe 4-6 months on a pair. My favorite gloves are the SKD Fire retard ones but they haven't been in stock in forever. I get their normal PIG gloves for the guys at work and they last maybe 2 weeks to a month, but they are a wear item.

Any type of impact bit that isn't Bosch, Makita, or other brand name I don't mess with and prefer german or USA made version if I can find them. Same with extension cords, drill bits, etc.

I picked up a Norton at bLowes today. It seems to rip compared to it's equally rated DeWalt counterpart.

I am cutting 3" C channel and 3x3x3/16 angle and the DeWalt wheels I had were seriously lacking.
