Tired of driving old shit, looking for something to make a decent payment on and drive with comfort and without worry. Was looking at Wranglers and now Grand Cherokees - feeling the GC.

I see some that have a price of ~30k and lease price of 250-260. Ones I'm looking at (Trailhawks or similar) have a price of 39k, but calling the dealer they give me a lease of around 600-700 - that's kind of silly. I did read some articles on leasehakr about the money factor, residual, etc. but not able to find anything like that around these parts (or a 2 hour drive).

I looked at 17-18 GCs but they have a paint bubbling issues on hoods and that's a NO for me, hoping they got that sorted out, and really would like to feel the vehicle for 3 years and then decide if I want it or not for the next 10 years.

A V8 would be nice, but ideally I'd like to be at 4xx lease payment. Must be 4x4, have tow package, and the optional 4x4 package would be nice as well. A local MBZ dealer is willing to lease a new GLC for 460 or so, and that has an msrp of 40+. Is it possible to get the vehicle I want for that range?

I am open to traveling to a different dealer/state if anyone has any recommendations. Thanks

In before the speech on leasing, versus buying.

Leasing make the most sense with a vehicle that holds its value well.

I wouldn't touch anything coming from fiat branded a jeep other than the wrangler, and even that has it's own stupidity, but it's the only thing you can get like it.

if I were looking for an SUV that could tow shit and be a decent daily driver it would probably be GM, and have an LS in it.

and I fucking hate GM.

aybe a honda pilot? It's as much a truck as a new grand cherokee is.

This.

Buy the wrangler. If you end up not wanting it after a few years then sell it a nearly full price like all the jeep sellers out there.

Haven't you learned anything on here? If you can pay cash for the full amount, you can't afford it.!!!! You need to buy an old shitbox and constantly dump money into it to keep it on the road.:flipoff2:

My friend just lemon lawed a 2020. Hopefully the new piece of shit will last. The last one spent more time in the dealership than his driveway.

I've heard waaaaaayyy to many people bitch about them, and that's not just internet hearsay. it's people I know that aren't idiots with cars that have stupid ass problems. They're just not built that well.

that said, we wheeled a rented JL in the spring and I really liked the 2L turbo jam. but who knows how it does long term.

Better be electric, you won't be able to get gasoline for it in two years if these two idiots take charge of our country.

Do not get anything with the fiat v6. Worst piece of shit made in my lifetime
i have no experience with the v8 though

I would heavily consider leasing the 4xE Wrangler. I don't know where those would put you price wise though.

The new 2021 GC is based on the "better" Alfa Romeo Giorgioplatform.......so there's that.

maybe. I don't know anything about the brand new new.

I have three friends with 2016+ GCs, and everyone of them has had some major mechanical issue that made them not drive at some point during the warranty period.

Buy a truck. Every guy needs a truck.

I drive in comfort and without worry in old shit.
Making [lease] payments on a fiat POS is what nightmares are made of.

All I own are trucks, I really dont want another one. I like SUVs.

I read lot of stuff regarding JKs that 3.8 no good, 3.6 much better, so it is a surprise that feedback now is to stay away from them. I see a lot of GCs on the roads, and generally through the years was under the impression they are decent rides that can go 150-200k, but it seems thats not the case.

Wranglers are cool but not seeing myself drop 40k on on one.

The GCs looks like a nice mature rig. Tahoes are way over the limit. 4runners.. holy hell, who hit them with the ugly stick.

Ill have to read up on the Alfa Romeo thing

but the plus side of the wrangler is that it holds it's value well, so maybe it's a better lease option?

I've had a few friends with jeeps and chryslers from the fiat era. and if past performance is an indicator of future performance, I'd not own one.
A lot of fancy shit, but none of it lasts. I think the only reason the wranglers are going to be OK is because it's pretty hard to fuck up a frame with a RWD drivetrain and solid axles. at least you can actualy work on the engine.

but hey, I'm just some guy on the internet with a very small sample size.

and I own a BMW and a Volvo, so my own vehicle choices should be strongly questioned.
