Is it worth it to swap to ori if the coil overs on my TJ are ready for a full rebuild and I don’t think I have ever been really happy with the valving? Or just rebuild and stick with what I go.

Why not spend the time to get what you have tuned better? ORI's aren't going to be some magic bullet that works right out of the box, they take tuning too.

Plus lead times are insane on everything right now. It'll probably take 6 months or a year to get a set of shocks...

Everybody I know that has run ORIs wants their coilovers back.

Finicky and seem to want rebuilds every other year.

Rebuild.

How old are your shocks? On something that sees a lot of miles, yearly rebuilds are pretty common. Valving is easy to change.

If you're not into doing it yourself, there are a lot more shops that rebuild regular C/O's. ORI, not so much.

After working with a team who ran ORIs in Ultra4 and spending some time with the Jenson brothers rebuilding one on the lakebed I think they have a really cool product that has its own little place in the industry. However, I'm not sure I would ever pick a set of ORIs over a good set of coilovers. Mainly because of pricing and also current availability of parts and service. I would get some solid data from your rig and call up a place like Accutune Offroad or Filthy motorsports and get them rebuilt and possibly revalved for your needs.

The guys I know with ORIs that love them run a ton of water and only really crawl. Not sure if they rebuild them seasonally but it wouldn't surprise me.

A buggy builder once told me ori’s were better than coil overs. I asked him why don’t trophy trucks run ori’s.

Also, ORI mounting is not identical to CO mounting to get the best benefit from them. As a guy who has built several rigs on ORIs and a few on Coilovers, if its already on COs, just tune them right and you'll be much happier. ORIs are another realm of suspension; they're awesome and have their place indeed but you're time and money ahead on staying with what you got and dialing it in.

tune your coil overs. sounds silly but check your weight and make sure you have the correct sprig rates. who know how much weight you have added or lost over the years.

and what dont you like about your CO's

You definitely should sell the coilovers to me!!! lol

But seriously, I am on the hunt for some coilovers. Also looking to see if anyone has a black Friday sale or something on them?

Keep the coil overs, rebuild them, and tune them. Unless of course they're FOAs lol

Phil Licciardi Liberty Mountain Fab, setup a tuning day with him.

This is what I’d recommend. He rebuilt my coilovers and you can see the photos on his Instagram (back in 2020. A lesson in why not to buy used King shocks). His before and after videos are amazing. I’m almost tempted to have him tune my shocks, and I bet he could do it without even having me drive the thing.

I wouldn’t go ORI struts because the convenience seems to be overly complicated if something goes wrong. By that I mean ‘if something breaks on my coilover it is simple, but tuning and adjusting coilovers kind of sucks.’

I’m on my first build and haven’t tuned anything. I just used internet information.

Shit.... what are the reasons to not buy used kings??

They were hammered on by the previous owner and after a rebuild plus replacing all the missing parts you should have taken his deal for brand new radflos valves specific for your ride, or bought new coilovers because it’s the same price, or less because they’d come with springs.

Well, i guess we'll see what i find out when i send mine to be rebuilt... hopefully i don't have the same luck... but if it weren't for bad luck, i wouldn't have any at all:laughing:

I had no clue what I bought. I thought I scored a deal for coilovers at $600. Apparently they’re really old. My buddy said ‘when shock Jesus makes you a deal you don’t question it.’

I think he is the first ‘member’ of pirates of the rubicon from what he told me. My memory sounds like the club was formed by two guys and he was right there after the two guys made the club or something. Very straightforward and no bullshit kinda guy.
