I am starting to look at older class b RV's as a better way for the wife and I to travel. Got a pretty low budget in that space, and come across early 90's vehicles from all 3 Mfg. Chevy seems to be the most represented on the market right now. Seems as though most sellers don't really know shit about the engine/trans but can tell you the fabric on the pillows, and any wood was ethically sourced...
Not really a Chevy guy, but want a rig that can tow my enclosed trailer with SxS in it, 16 footer. All that I see have an OD trans and a SBC 350. Probably fine for propelling the van itself but I feel it would be weak pulling a trailer. I tow now with a CCSB 6.7 power stroke. Big part of this is the wife being comfortable driving it. She will drive the truck with the trailer, but refuses to drive anything "taller". Trading the wife in could be an option, but finding another model seems way more complicated.
Thinking it could be a good project to put a LS(?) and a newer transmission into one of these older vans and come out not spending $150,000.
Am I simplifying this too much? Would beefing up whatever OD trans and maybe building a 383, if that is even possible today, be a better option?
