I have a Jeep that has been in the family since 04 but the last time I had it running and driving was in 2012. I need to go get it out of the yard because my parents are getting divorced. I figured I would drag it out, try and get it running, and put the money into another project.

Its an 83 CJ7 with 4" lift, Hard doors, hard top, dana 44 front ox locker, shackle reversal, sleeved trussed amc20 rear with detroit locker, moser axles, 4.56s, disk brake conversion. corvette master cylinder. It's on 33x10.50 BFGs that have obviously aged out by now. No structural rust but there is some surface rust on the body.

Spare parts: stock leaves, dana 44 rear with matching gears and welded diff. Avalanche engineering rockers. T5 transmission (runs but noisy in 5th)

I also have an uninstalled MORE HD steering box mount for it among other parts... It also has a Warn rear bumper and Tuffy locking trunk box. Spare set of five 15" chrome wheels.

Haven't seen it in a few years so I wouldn't be surprised if that rocker spot is a hole now.

Only about 45k on the ODO

I've never paid more than $500 for a non-runner.

Did you read the part where I said I was planning on getting it running before I sell it? Or did you just read the title :flipoff2:

What I read was, "try and get it running." There is no try. There is do, or do not.

Fair enough. I will check in in a couple years when it is running again :flipoff2:

What engine and trans is in it and without a recent picture kind of hard give a estimate on value. I've seen shit boxes in my area for $1000-2000 not sure what they actually sell for .

37 year old Jeep that doesn’t run, needs tires, and doesn’t look like the photo. No idea what motor is in it and no idea what the interior looks like.

yeah. Tree fiddy is top dollar. It’s a roller at this point.

I always love threads like this, what's this worth. You can ask that question to thousands of people, but the reality is it's only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Good luck... 😉

I guess I should have framed it a little differently. I was hoping to get a ballpark of what it's worth as-is and whether it would be worth getting it running, slapping some JY tires on it, and selling it as a running project or if I should bother with parting it out. I was pretty drunk when I made the OP so none of that came out :homer:

Engine is the 4.2L I6, T4 trans, dana 300 was rebuilt and only has a few hundred mi on it.

Where is it located?

Grand Junction, CO

You framed it just fine. "Ran when parked. Photo is 8 years old" is worth probably close to $350. It isn't even known if you have a title.
Running and driving with some kind of interior and it looks just like the photo posted might get you a few grand for a running project.
Parting it out....Dana 300 is going to sell, maybe the axles sell, and you'll have a Wrangler body to store until someone brings a trailer.

Running and driving with a new fuel pump. I dropped the tank and replaced it and the lines as well but haven't finished wrapping it up.

Bunch of idiots, old Jeeps are getting expensive. I wouldn't be surprised if you could find someone to pay $5k+

This is what I usually see

1984 jeep cj7 - cars & trucks - by owner - vehicle automotive sale

In my 30 seconds of looking, most were more that that one. I saw one for $5900 in Wyoming, but I'm not sure if it was nicer that op's.

Not sure how far the rabbit hole I'll go with additional repairs but I was thinking $5000 would be a solid minimum price point with the new fuel tank, hoses, pump, etc.

If you really want to know what its worth post it for sale. Jeeps like that seem to sit for sale forever here in Ca at the price a couple posters have mentioned. But a lot of that is smog laws. I don't know what you have where you are but truthfully you have about a 1200.00 project jeep for sale if you were here in Ca. And even then those ones stay for sale for awhile. Since I have been really watching the Ca market the last 5 years I am blown away at some of the Jeeps that stay for sale for so long, I know we like them and we have a great perceived value amongst ourselves but those of us really into it are fucking too broke to buy and the ones who aren't don't buy projects anyway.

You actually contact the sellers? Because the last vehicle (dirt bike) shopping I did, out of the 12+ ads I inquired about, I think 3 responded. Lots of people who just never delete the ad, or for whatever reason just don't respond to inquiries.

CA does have a lot of bs to deal with, back fees transferring to a new owner are beyond retarded and most don't know is almost exclusive to CA. Then of course, trying to smog a 40 year old vehicle :homer:

$1200 doesn't get you shit these days. Unless you know someone.

Does every car in Cali have to go through emissions???
Before WA got rid of it, I think the break off was 25 years!!!
I couldn’t imagine having to run a 40 year old vehicle through emissions…. Fkn A!!!!

Any gas vehicle for 19 fucking 75 or newer

Any diesel 98 or newer

It was 1973 and they said they were going to keep it at 30 years old. In 05 they repealed it :homer:

$4-8k in SoCal. Prices are all over the map these days.
Dude yeah. I've been hankering for another early CJ project, and I'm seeing stuff for like 10k that need ton of work.

When I bought my 46 Willys CJ, in 2012 or there abouts, I paid $3k for a fully drivable bone-stock vehicle that didn't need any work done to it. Everything worked, mechanical and electrical, and it wasn't a rust bucket. I drove it for about 1 year as a daily driver before I started doing anything to it.

I'm seeing similar vehicles asking 8-10k now. I want another project, but not at 10k, haha

dirt bikes are a different animal altogether. I am just talking about Jeeps. And yes I had contacted a few. Some of the ads are over a year old, they have to be re listed at that length of time. And yes the fees are fucking ridiculous here Last week I spent 1180.00 in fees on a 75 3/4 ton squarebody.

1975 and earlier are smog exempt here in Ca. There are a few 76 models though that somehow because of build dates maybe? Are also exempt. I think its build date and weight.
