CIT Bank

Dropped $10k in a CIT account about a year ago, plus probably another 4k whenever I had extra after paying bills that I didn't want to piss away on dumb stuff. Has been earning about 5% since I started it. Interest earned has been averaging $55 a month.

Only complaint is it does take like a week for deposits to show up.

My big complaint is the app fucking SUCKS for an online-only bank. After this latest update, it wants to send a 2-factor code to a number that isn't mine, but only from the app. Logging in through the browser sends the code to my number. Before this update, the app would only work for about a week before locking me out (Authentication failed) where I would have to uninstall and reinstall it. I just don't have the time nor inclination to sit on hold for 2 hours waiting to tell them to fix their shit.

But I do enjoy the interest accrued.:flipoff2:

Ditto, CDs are hot right now. I got a 6 month at %5.1 at my credit union.

My daughter is at wells fargo and got a %4.75 at 7 month I think. They had a few short options.

Money market at Fidelity and vanguard are still over 5%, CDs at NFCU are still around 5%

So why/how would a cd be better then a savings account earning the same?
Fixed rate for the next however long the CD is for.
Rates are dropping at the moment or will drop soon.

You guys realize that the banks are not there for you, they are there to remove money from you
This thread should be in the TP. No need for a random thieving trolling scammer, banking crooks and eye r us to see "our money grows on trees portfolio" only to have it chopped down-

It's not.

Savings is better if you need to access, or think you might need to access the money.

Risk is interest rate dropping to nothing next month.

CD, fixed interest. But harder to get your money, or if you do take it then you lose all the gains.

I chose CD because I didn't want to have access to the money, but on the other hand only locking it up for 6 months isn't a big deal.

Some CDs go out a couple years. I am not sure where I would be in a couple years. Maybe I will need it.

Anyone else unable to log in to their account?

Some stuff on Reddit about this being a reoccurring issue and the bank losing credibility.

I have a huge chuck I currently can't access. :mad3:

If it wasn't for interest I would likely store my own cash.

I can get in just fine through a web browser.

They do seem to have a login outage every once and a while. It is annoying, but it does not bother me too much. I do not view the funds I keep in that account as same or next day accessible.

I've had issue's logging into my old local bank's website in the past BUT i cleared the cookies on my browser and then it worked fine.

I have no problems logging in from the browser, but the app blows donkey balls. It has tried to two-factor me from the very start of their two-factor on the app to a phone number that is not a part of my account. When I go in through an browser, it two factors me to my phone.

After the one and only time I called them and sat on hold for hours on an estimated 20 minute wait (or something like that), I just haven't felt it necessary to even worry about it.

On another note, I recently opened a second account there... the Platinum Savings still pays 4.795% APY (versus 4.54% APY for the regular Savings Connect) as long as your balance is maintained above $5k.:grinpimp:

It turns out I was entering the wrong password, but in my defense it never said incorrect password, only "try again later". The ap and web browser login is very clunky.

I often have the exact problem if I haven't logged in in a while. Tries to send a confirmation code to a phone number that isn't mine. I haven't called them yet but it is alarming as if you've been hacked or something.

if you guys are having issues, I use Republic Bank republiebank.com (yes with an e in there) and they have been awesome. get over 5% compounded daily
