What's new

Cheap 5.29s

Damn, I need hp gears for my spare 3rd. They're still regular price.

I bought some stuff for my 80 Series because why not 😂. Spending money like it’s going out of style. I searched Nitros page then ordered through Summit.

Not as familiar with the +2000 era stuff. Is the only things required to run these in an older 8" a V6 carrier and a 29sp pinion flange?

Seems like non elocker rigs got an 8.4" . Not sure what the actual difference is though..

This is the gear set for E-Locker third from a 3rd gen 4Runner or 1st gen taco. You need a V6 third and a 29 spline pinion flange.

Yes the “8.4in” diffs are completely different animals. Only maybe the carrier bearings interchange with the 4cly/V6 thirds.

Here’s a good breakdown of the differences.
4x4Wire diffs

Tempted to buy one just in case some year I have another Toyota with a 8" I want to regear, which is inevitable of course

So did a little digging on nitro gears. I figured I would pass it along. I called a buddy who owns a shop and sets up a lot of gears. He said he’s replaced some broken nitro gears that were setup by other shops but none he setup has ever came back. With the broken gears all being setup by others he couldn’t give much insite on other quality. He did say their install kits suck and have given him trouble so he quite using them all together. It’s just easier to get Yukon or Richmond gears and setup kits from other vendors.

I ordered one. Worse come to worse I’ll have it as a spare if needed.

Here's a stupid question but it is Tuesday. Diffs with VSS's are V6? The one I bought a long time ago was. My front diff has the VSS boss or whatever you call it.

I don’t remember about the VSS boss but I’ve always counted the ribs that run along the side. 3 was 4cyl and 4 was a V6.

Buddy of mine got a voicemail from Summit to call them back. So far I’m in the clear 😂. I’ll update when he decides to call them back.

Those of you that jumped on them quick scored. Same links now have them listed for $258

Suppose it was a website fuckup? I took advantage of that on simpletire.com a couple of years ago. They had some super-cheap name brand tires listed (Firestone Destination LRE's). They weren't in sizes that I could use, so I ordered a couple sets thinking they'd refund me and cancel or something. Waited until I got them then tried to reorder, same price listed. Canceled my order the next morning, listed them as out of stock for a few days, then they returned "in stock" at a more normal price. Sold the tires and made some $$$:smokin:
Is this an Amazon roof rack situation?

Or should I order a handful?
See above. I ordered 4 sets, if they show up and don't look like panz dug them outta the gravel pit I'll declare victory. If they look like they are damaged, or don't look to be heat treated, or something I'll see if Summit can do something about it.

Feel free to laugh at me for going 300 deep on shitty gears if I get stuck with them:homer:. Oh well, if that's the case I'll turn them into trophies for some motorsports event:laughing:

I need another set. I’ve never ran Nitros. How do they compare to say Yukons?
I ordered Yukon 5.29's front and rear from Marlincrawler. The rear set was damaged from the factory and then Yukon was out of stock and couldnt get me a replacement set, so Marlincrawler recommended Nitro's to me, unless I wanted a full refund. So now I have Nitro's sitting in my garage.

Haven't installed them yet, but obviously Marlincrawler was comfortable enough recommending them.

Can order direct also
Something isn't right about that site. I can't pay with paypal, but I can do paypal express where I sign in on their page, or it'll take my cc info. I even tried creating an account, but it won't take it due to security conflict issues. If it's working for you guys, check out the clearance section. Plenty of cheap gear sets in there.
