I've ran into a few over the years, but today was odd.

First off it's Sunday at 7:30 pm. I'm laying down to go to bed since I need to be up at 230, because I'm an idiot. :flipoff2:

Wife says there is a truck here and someone is knocking. Wtf? We live off the beaten path a bit and unexpected guests are very rare, especially a vehicle we don't recognize.

I get out of bed and peer out the front door window, can see the truck, but no person. Right about then I look out back and this lady is on our back deck, knocking on our windows :confused: my wife was already out there and the lady said something like "hi I'm from the census Bureau" then asks my wife how many people live here and walks back to her truck.

I feel like we already had a guy come and hand us a packet.

As I'm typing this, I'm starting to wonder if this lady is casing places? Who the fuck goes in someones back yard and knocks on the window?
 
Just called it into the sheriff, the dispatch thought it was odd enough to take a full report.

She did leave a note on one of our vehicles like they usually do when no one answers.

Why be persistent enough to go in the back yard and knock on windows, but when someone comes out, you don't do the interview?

I have a feeling she may actually work for the census, but is also casing houses.
 
Co worker’s girlfriend is doing the census this year, I’ll have to ask her just how much they can “push” to get their count

I did ours online a while ago. I’m half tempted to print out our online receipt, put it in a document protector, and attach it to the front gate
 
Some one on our nieghborhood FB group said that her son did it for a while, they have a badge and iPad (she had neither) she said it sounds fishy.
 
No plate number, I went down to talk to her and she was backing out to leave.

Of course the stupid camera system we have has dead batteries :homer: the "2 year life" battery's lasted like 2 months, and regular decent batterys last like a week at most :rolleyes:

They (census folks) made a phone case for my friends girlfriend that is basically her I’d, I think she has another form of I’d to go with it . And the iPad

She was holding up her phone, but I didn't get a good look at it.

I wouldn't be surprised if she actually worked for the census. I also wouldn't be surprised if she was tipping off guys where good shit is in people's yards.
 
I think census people probably take their job too serious. But I haven't filled mine out and nobody visits me and I live in town.
 
So roll up late as fuck, check the back entrance first, say they are census, then leave without doing anything that has to do with the census?


Is that the series of events?
 
Had one stop by yesterday. She said the county gets 2500 federal money for every resident who lives here. My county is small and poor I helped out, I have a few neighbors who guarantee don’t participate
 
They went into your backyard and knocked on windows?? That would not end well at my house. My dog does not take too kindly to strangers. And I can be pretty quick with a shovel.

I mean, 730 pm, knocks on front door first, then in the time it takes me to walk downstairs, she's knocking on the back window. She only asked my wife how many people live here. Wasn't an "interview" by any means.

So yes, suspicious to me.

Sheriff sent a unit up to patrol the area, as well.

I wonder what the punishment would be for using your census "powers" to help thieves? I'd imagine they wouldn't take that lightly, but our county and state don't prosecute really anything anymore. :rolleyes:

I filled it out online.

I haven't seen anyone around here. But I live in a town of 5k 2 hours from anywhere, so nobody cares about us.
 
Had one show up last census after I ignored all the shit in the mail. Was hungover when they knocked on the door. Gave them the number when they asked and shut the door in their face when they started whatever the next question was. They didn't knock or come back again after that.

Gotten a bunch of letters in the mail for months about it this year. Thrown em all away after the first one. Went to the site to do it online, but it asks a bunch of personal questions you can't skip so I just closed out of it. If they show up this year all they're getting is a number.
 
A census taker showed up past Saturday around 5pm with badge, papers & iPad... Nice lady, mentions that county residents don't want to participate. I wonder why they want to be a ghost?

This is my first time meeting a census worker and yes, I filled out the form & mailed it a couple of months ago-

would have done it online but as mentioned asked questions you could not skip over

she asked for al names of people living in the house on April 1st, with birthdates, relation to home owner, race and ancestry origin.
not a big deal and done in 10 minutes
 
I dont know why they take the census, seems completely like a waste of money and resources since the gov already knows who lives where and how many kids. And I think that counting race and financial information is beyond the governments concern and only leads to gerrymandering.
 
I filled mine out online this go around. I was sad it wouldn't accept Cracker as my race. ::Homer:: Filled it out and went on with my day.
 
Back when I took 6-8 months off of work (several years ago), I was in the driveway almost every day working on my projects. It blew my mind how often strangers just walked around the neighborhood going door to door, either selling something, or asking for donations, or what not. And the stuff they sell was usually extremely high priced cleaning solutions, or some shit like that.

I'm PRETTY sure that some of those folks were seeing when folks were home, who had dogs, and that type of stuff. Because every few months, I'd hear of somewhere in the neighborhood 3-4 houses would get broken into in one day at like 2 in the afternoon, and then a little while later it would move to another part of the neighborhood and cycle around like that.

Just out of curiosity, one time I told the lady "Hey, come back tomorrow, and I'll buy some". She never came back. Sometimes I got the feeling they actually wanted to sell stuff, other times I got the feeling that they didn't care one way or another.
