I have my consult tomorrow for measuring and choosing a lens for my right eye. surgery will prob be done early next year.
I have googled to get info, and talked to a lot of people who have had the surgery (man is this common now)

seems to me that most people( that I talked to) who got multifocal lens put in were happy at first, but dissatisfied within about a year as it did not work as well as expected. on the other hand, most people who got the monofocal stayed happy with their choice
based on that, I am likely going monofocal.
I have had poor distance vision all my life, but near vision was great. For the past.....35 years or so...I have worn contact lenses, and at least 20 years ago went to 24/7 monthlies. put them in, leave them for a week or 2, take an overnighht break, then in for another week, throw away after a month. I have no issues with contacts and would be fine keeping using them
So I am thinking of getting a monofocus lens to correct my near vision perfectly, and keep using contacts for the distance vision. That way I don't have to reach for the reading glasses to read, do hobbies, change an o2 sensor, etc. I absolutely HATE wearing glasses!!!
looking for thoughts from people who have had it done - which lens did you choose and are you happy with the choice?

Im 36 had them done over a year ago. Love it. I have one close and one far, no issues. My Dad is the same with about the same timing. He had his done about 6 months before I did. Still loves it.

I also had astigmatism and Keratoconus. Starting in middle school my eye sight slowly degenerated. I went from great vision to contacts, to hard contact to glasses 24/7. Now I have better vision uncorrected than I had corrected. I only wear glasses when working on the computer.

Surgery was a bit trippy but well worth it in the end. I also went for the premium flexible lenses as Im super young for it and my eyes are more pliable than old ass folks.

My father had both eyes done with multifocal lenses a couple years ago. It took him a couple months to get used to the lenses, but he claims to love his vision now. Was near sighted, and used glasses for driving and watching TV before surgery.

Got my right eye done yesterday, corrected for near vision, and the focus seems to reach pretty far out to mid range too, but it is monofocal lens. I could not possibly be happier with the results. It is great to have the uncorrected near vision but I totally did not appreciate how dark my vision had gotten. I was using bright lights everywhere to do stuff, and today it is like someone has lifted a dark veil off my eye (which, I guess technically they did do, lol)
And I now understand why they want to do my left eye too. The focus (corrected) in that one is actually pretty good. But now when I close my right eye, it is very clear that the vision is dark in the left. Sure looking forward to getting the left done in 2 weeks!

great news!

just an FYI my first eye when unwrapped was crystal clear and awesome.

after they did the second reveal of the other eye it was blurry at first, but after like a day or two became clear. Freaked me out and thought they fucked up. But they assured me it was common. So just be alert haha

I need to get off my ass and get this done.

What's a ballpark on cost?
Sorry can't help you out with that. I am in Canuckistan and all I have paid was $50 here and $50 there for some additional tests/measurements. Everything else is covered by the BC Medical plan, which is funded by provincial tax revenue. So it isn't free, but I am out of pocket very little.

I looked into the "bifocal cataract lenses" while I had bifocal glasses. Came to the conclusion if my distance was good and the night issues gone I could deal with reaching for a pair of readers when necessary such as when tying on a #22 badger bivisible fly on a 5x leader. Cant see a reason why contacts for near vision wont work but Im also not an optometrist, better to ask the pro than rely on lay opinions...

Oh and medicare paid for my surgery...no copay.

My Brothers script was -9, he wore coke bottle glasses his whole life. He had cataract surgery and a corrective lens installed at the same time, now he has 20/15 vision and he's very happy.

2nd eye done yesterday and the world looks good today. Both eyes corrected for near vision so the phone, computer, books, people sitting in front of me all look very clear but distance not so good. I have my follow up at optometrist on Thursday. Will be getting new lenses in my old glasses to correct for distance. Temp lenses for now as my focus won't settle for 6 to 8 weeks, then we get the proper lenses and hopefully some bifocal contacts.
I don't know if I just didn't pay attention with the first eye but this second one seems a bit more beat up. Bloody patch on each side and definitely a heavier layer of goop on the eye for a few hours. Looks ok this morning though. All in all, very glad I did this

I cannot as well.
My insurance paid for mine, due to cataracts. Due to high doses of steroids, due to kidney failure .....
Hey me too! I had mine done at age 34.
