Bought some used 5.0 SBF parts awhile back. Part of the purchase was a clutch disc and pressure plate. Everything is in useable shape, but I was curious if I could find out the manufacturer from the numbers stamped on the disc. My Google-fu isn’t very strong tonight.

pht seems kinda like the orielleys house brand 'powertorque' brand of chinesium

getting nothing from the numbers
but it's 10 spl so you can measure the disc diameter and count the bolt holes on the cover and get a pretty good idea of what it's for, it'll probably be pretty generic as parts were back then

If I google the numbers i get a few results as A 10.4” disc for a 5.0 ford, which is what it’s supposed to fit, so that’s good. I assume it’s just some generic parts store piece and nothing special.

Still should work for any upcoming manual swap in the Mustang.

On to the next question. We bought the used clutch as an assembly with the flywheel, pressure plate & disc bolted together.

Of course I didn’t bother to take everything apart until we were getting ready to swap our AOD for a T5 in the Mustang. After I got it apart i found a fair amount of rust on the pressure plate. Soaked it in evaporation for the past couple days hoping to clean it up. Rust is gone, but there is still some pitting. It looks worse than it feels. I scuffed its some sandpaper, but I don’t think it will get any better.

As usual, money is tight, so I don’t want to spring for a new clutch at this very moment if I don’t have to. We mainly just want to get the trans swap done while we still have decent weather and can put a few miles on it before putting it up for the winter.

Send it, or replace it?

Not even a question. Send it.

You could go around it with the wire wheel if you wanted. Those tend to smooth over peaks in surface roughness without actually removing much metal (which is why they suck at prepping shit for paint).

I’d run it if I wasn’t against replacing it a bit early.. probably fine..

Brake rotors rust all the time without issue
I don’t see any issues swapping it next spring. Trying to get this swap done as well and few other things before March. Somehow we got a spot in the Detroit Autorama in March. There are a lot of other things we need to spend on before then, so I’m trying to cut costs where I can. All the little things add up.

Throw it in the trash and buy a new clutch from Luk or someone reputable....a clutch is a wear item...why would you consider re-using a used clutch?

Send it!

It's not anything special. You just need it to drive.

Would be a whole lot more concerning if you were putting a tr6060 in rather than a shitty t-5. :flipoff2:
