So, I picked up a used '12 Rockwood A128 (hardside A frame popup) recently and want to put it to use soon. Have 0 experience with this stuff and have only tent camped before. When looking at campsites, what am I supposed to look for as far as pad length goes, just something to cover the length of the trailer (which is 17'), or both the truck AND trailer, which would be about 35' or so combined? So, 20' site or 40'? 40' seems really excessive to me, I'd rather be tucked into a nice little site than feel like I'm in a parking lot. When looking for sites, many websites are asking for "vehicle length", so uhhhhhhhhhh...what?

Can't seem to get a clear answer on this. 100% of the time I'd be disconnecting and using the truck to run around.

Usually (not allways) pad length is coupled rig long... (See pullthru)
It will be the paved portions, some have a backup bumpstop and a boatload extra for overhang, as with slideouts being big now a wide section on the right (rear of coach).

Some sites are wide enough to slip back a ways and do the 17' rig and have like 10 ish feet of towpig parallel.

Edit
Some backin sites are box canyon style rear bumper in brush, front at road.

And many other online sites, some show the site and pad dimensions.
It boils down to how much leveling gear ya wanna carry as to how many spots you can use.

Just what the axles and tongue jack need. Actually the axles are only needed to be on it for easy side-to-side level, the tongue jack can be used on the dirt if needed. The reason they ask for length is so you are not sticking too far out when parked. If you are disconnected they only need trailer length
