California Members Poll/Questions

A. Smogged and registered cuz why not

Unless you're going full on tube buggy might as well keep it street legal
I am probably making it a bigger deal in my head than it really is. I am not currently dealing with some exotic setup, just a Renix 4.0 that I’ve never smogged since I bought it. It's missing a few pieces and I can smell that it likely won't pass... but other than a tune up I haven't put much effort into that area.

It's a trail only rig, but as I mentioned, there would be some instances where it needs to drive on pavement to get from trailer to trail. My question was just intended to see if I should put effort into making it pass or if people run these California trails fine/legally without street legal status.

I think my question has been sufficiently answered and I'll be working on getting it to pass smog and pulling it back off non-op. The damn Renix engine bay just irks me for how simple of a setup, how spaghetti of a mess it is :shaking:

It's like shooting craps, you can do well. Or lose yer azz...

Honestly I'm a " don't do 2 things wrong" guy...
Aka You can get overlooked for 1 thing easier than a long list.
Do we as a group look like something a L.E.O. needs to address or are we under the radar out there?
If yer looking normal with expired tags It's not a problem.
If you look like a dot training poster :flipoff2:
My .02 is hwy 50 cops = easier going that Tahoe traffic patrol

Tahoma to Fordyce and then back to towpigs is the question.

You guys towing need to recon a rendezvous/parking site ( fresh pond? ) so we can judge exposure

Who told you that you need proof of property or an address.... because they are wrong. Mailing adress to your current place.
I had my samurai registered near Quincy.
I got a po box there and went to dmv. The lady at the desk asked for a street address to use there so I googled a cabin for rent and gave it to her. I asked for my male to be sent to the P.O. Box. I didn’t smog it for the 5 years I owned the Sami. There’s also ways around not having to smog a vehicle when you first buy it but that takes a lot of time. Not something to do if you want to drive it on the street immediately.

Had a buddy that used to throw his dealer plate on his rig. Not sure how all that would work out if you got pulled over.

I haven’t smogged my Jeep (Renix 4.0) since I’ve had it, but with a little work I probably could get it to pass and then transfer to non smog county.
I guess I just need to go try and see how much hassle I get, if any.
So I don’t smog in California and that’s probably why…BUT I passed Nevada smog on my Renix with a sniffer and all the stock emissions controls in tact. I actually replaced the air box with a cone shaped filter and plumbed the vacuum lines into the intake tube. Pretty sure it’s the stock car from 1989 too.
