:flipoff2:

I’m a fairly noob to drinking coffee and have been consistently using my Keurig most of the time. I always felt the coffee tasted “watered down.” My wife makes some fancy coffee for herself on the stove but I prefer to drink my coffee black. I ordered what I thought was ground coffee beans last week and come to find out I didn’t order the correct option so I received whole beans.

I’ve actually been wanting to grab a regular coffee maker for a while so I guess this is my chance. Looking for recommendations on a maker/ burr grinder in my budget. Wanting to spend no more than $50 for a top quality product. :flipoff2: Realistically it looks like $150-$350 is what I’m going to have to spend. Just got an Amazon gift card so looking to kill one stone with two birds.

Get a hand grinder and a french press. Tastes way better, is cheap, and nothing on it will break.

Bunn commercial brewer is what I've used for 7yrs now, I got sick of buying a coffee maker every year or so. Paid $200 on Craigslist and haven't looked back. Consistently great coffee and 2 minute brew time.

$15 black & decker drip pot at Walmart. I've had mine for 10 years now. Programmable, not fancy. Justs...makes coffee when I want it.

Burr grinder - get the $40 one from amazon. It's loud, but works well.

We use a Keurig, but use the cup where you can put in your own coffee. You can make it come out like "road tar" if you want.

Head to Walmart and pickup a dumb 12cup Mr Coffee maker; a "smart plug" and coffee grinder. There is a pesky little valve in the Mr. Coffee basket; pull that shit out and toss it in the trash. You don't need to spend anymore then $60 for good coffee.

With the smart plug and dumb coffee maker, I can roll over in bed in the morning and tell Google to turn on the coffee pot.
Fuck that "French press" bullshit. BTDT!

Here is the grinder I use, couple years old and works great

I don't have a grinder, but I have a Mr. Coffee that has been running hard for 5 years now. Get one that has the washable filter, no more fucking around with paper. The cat is right about the dumb maker and smart outlet. I never thought of it and now wish I had. I hate my wife's keureg, I swear it melts plastic and puts it in my coffee.

I got a manual burr grinder years ago. Way too much work IMO (especially before Ive had my coffee). I took the handle off and put a 10mm coupling nut on there. Now when I want to grind some beans, I just put a 10mm socket on my Milwaukee impact driver and go to town. Ghetto set up, I'll upgrade one of these days.

how much do you drink and how much effort do you want to put into it? krieg taste like garbage IMHO because the water has very little time in the beans

  • boil water, grind, and french press is good, helps keep the bitterness down but cleaning the press is annoying because im lazy
  • drip is simple and easy. i have a 4 cup one because i am making it to go usually so i dont need a full size pot. on the weekend if i want more i make another pot. upside is its fresh as coffee that sits on the burner gets bitter
  • bunn is overkill for someone who only drinks a small amount

Thanks for the info. My wife said just to dump it in the Nutribullet then use the Keurig.

During the week I’m on the go so the Keurig works great minus the flavor is lacking.

typically Saturday mornings is when I like to sit on the front porch and drink a cup or two to relax and get my day started.

i will start my 4-cup drip, then pack my lunch, brush my teeth or deal with with the kids. takes about 4 minutes to brew.

for a while on the weekends i was pressing coffee from the local roaster/coffee shop. the roast on tues so when i would stop by on the weekend nothing was left, so i stopped going.

i like dark coffee so my go to is pete's major dickersons.

Iffin you or your wife like fancy or aka sustainable coffee or cofefe I will look on survival blog again and do my best to import a link for you and others here that are coffee minded.

I just consumed a two cup cup of cafe bustelo

for cheap coffee this stuff is excellent.

x whatever on burr grinder.
it's the only way to get consistent size grounds.

i just use Folgers Classic roast and a $15 Walmart MR Coffee 5 cup coffee maker.. it works for me but I'm no coffee snob..

M-F we do the typical drip old fashion coffee brewing style. Some fancy thing with the espresson as a side function, and couple differe t settings for getting the most outta a bean. Good grinder and bean I think go farther than the brewer.

Evenings if we're jonesing or weekends we brew the Bosnian way (Turkish traditionally). Very fine powder. Done right, itll taste great without any fuss. Done wrong, you'll chew on chalk.

Side story, wasnt a coffee drinker pre-wife. During those days, I may have visited the snowman a few times on the weekends. Fast forward, I'm meeting her parents for the first time, they crank up some of their coffee (turkish way). First cup of any coffee in many months if not a year.

I kept looking in the cup trying to figure out why my gums weren't numb after drinking a cup of coffee that I swear had to have the slightest amount of blow in it.

Now that I semi regularly drink it..I'm just chasing that feeling

I bought some of this tea a while back.

it will make you want to go car bomb something.

same deal, I was like "holy shit I'm wired as fuck"

Yup, my (then girlfriend, now wife) was like, are you okay?...

Hard to explain the whole... you sure this ain't blow and not coffee situation...

I'll edit this again with photos of the whole setup

Aeropress and a Baratza Encore grinder. Then find good beans.

I have a commercial Bunn in the kitchen and a cheapo ($8 or so) "Mainstays" (Chinese) Walmart 5-cup for the RV. Both complete the brew in about the same time, although the insulated carafe on the Bunn is nice. I also just use espresso beans and a cheapo Mr Coffee grinder that I have had for at least 10 years, I grind up a week's worth and put it in an old Cafe Bustelo can for quick fixin's in the morning.

+1 for French press + kettle.

Been doing that for 5 years now, refuse to go 5o anything else.

I use 8 o clock beans and have a cheap electric Amazon grinder.

I look forward to my morning coffee.
