Built a dumb KJ for my woman

Cut out the front cross member so I could sink the winch back as much as possible, and built a low profile bumper around it. I used a cheap harbor freight winch mount for the base.

The next project I built was a low profile roof rack with Baja style light bar. I just bought a Rogue Fab tube bender and this was my first project with it. I used the factory roof rack mounting hardware to mount and attach this one.

And for some reason I still can’t get the pictures to post in correct order.

That's a cool rack. I like the dimple die plates hugging the roof.
Thanks! I wasn’t sure how that would look but it was a simple way to fill the gap and I like how it turned out.

Bent up some rock sliders next.

I didn’t really take a lot of great pictures when I was building these. I kinda slapped everything together at the end because we had already planned a shakedown run that I didn’t think I would be ready for. But we made it.

Some of the last major parts left in the build were drivelines. First we picked up an np241(non rubicon) with fixed yokes. It was a direct swap. Then I had my rear driveline made by a shop that I usually use and he is great but he was just to busy to get the job done in a reasonable time. So I had my front driveline built by B and W Driveline Plus in Orangevale Ca. He did an awesome job, answered a hundred questions and had it built in a couple days. I also needed a speed signal to my speedometer since my axles and t-case don’t have the sensors. So I ran the signal from my transmission output to a Dakota Digital signal interface box and from there to my speedometer. And now I have a mostly accurate speedometer that keeps my transmission happy and my Liberty from stalling.

So that’s the short sweet version of this 4-5 year project. I still have several things to do like roll cage, major skid plate work, probably some overlander type stuff and a small trailer. I will probably wait until I know this camping season is over to start, and will update as I go.

2 weeks later we took both jeeps and all 3 kids to the rubicon. My wife drove there and back. We wheeled into the RTF property, camped a couple nights and drove back out. By the end of the trip she was way more confident driving through the rocks and was ready for more.

I finally started on a roll cage for this thing. I am hoping to get it finished by KOH 2022. I don’t really know what I am doing, so I am kinda just wingin it.

Had no idea you were local to the highlakes.

How far down bear did you go? Past the lake, down pipe jam?
Yep. The group stopped at Pipe Jam lake campground and I went up the hill in my Jeep but there was a tree down across the trail near the top of the first hill and I didn’t bring a chainsaw. I believe a group went up a couple weeks later and cleared the trail.

Anybody have experience with these 3/16” 2 hole flanges for a cage? I think I bought them from Ruffstuff a while back for a different project and never ended up using them. So now that I have them, should I use them up or make my own 1/4” plate 4 hole flanges?

Are you going to tie into the frame on the bottom? If not, I'd rather have a larger plate.

Fwiw, all metals in Oroville has a decent selection of 4 bolt plates.

Yeah I will build it like a standard cage tying into the plated subframe and using a flange at the top and bottom of the floor board. I was at All Metals today picking up tube and didn’t even think to get flanges there, thanks, I forgot they even carried them.

I went ahead and made my own 4 hole plates out of 1/4”. Of course the Amazon special Plasma cutter has to break first. Minor set back, I just had to repair some wires in the handle. I did make some progress today though.
