Honestly, looking at Newegg and seeing what off the shelf options exist... current desktop is circa 2009. Stuff is just starting to slow down and it's just time for a new tower and fresh slate. Current processor is: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 620 Processor 2.60 GHz

Not a gamer anymore... PBB, P0rn, FBM, Excel, high definition streaming. Wifey likes to have 500 internet tabs open and that nukes the ram... I would like to learn CAD (last thread I started) so something that wouldn't be clunky running say Fusion 360 et al.

Video and picture editing for my onlyfans page... :flipoff2:will sell you my butthole pics to fund computer
Looking at some of the more expensive options, is it worth going with an integrated video card?

Wife wants to spend $400... I am OK spending $1500-1800 if that means I don't need to upgrade for a decade.

I don't have time to physically build one so...

If you are still living around here, I can highly recommend memory express (Wharncliffe & Southdale). Really good bunch of guys in there, AND they will price match to Canada Computers, Amazon,Newegg (as long as it ships from them, not a third party). If price matching, double check manufacturer part numbers on the websites and your good to go.
And if you mean "my butthole pics" you mean some hottie and it is you who took the pics and therefore your pics, okay, otherwise. No. :flipoff2: Send them to 486.

If your wanting video editing, go for more ram on the video card, 8 gig to me is 10 years ago. 12+ gig.

Find out if the programs you'd be using for the CAD or Fusion work better with an Intel or AMD.
first randomn related search, 2 years out of date ie: 13th Gen Intel Core vs AMD Ryzen 7000 for CAD & beyond

With the current state of processors it probably doesn't matter much anymore, but you never know. Same for the video editing stuff.
Pick your processor preference, AMD or Intel and then just go hog wild. My criteria when I bought mine (also a prebuilt) was 1.It had to be current. 2.Had to have decent amount of video ram and sorta recent video card. Given what you want to do, lots of vram. Way too many video cards are stuck in the past when it comes to vram, 12 gig or more. But get ready for sticker shock.
RAM I was not concerned about because its both cheap and easy to get.

With the basics you can see whats out there for prebuilts and the price points. What I discovered quickly is that the budget I thought would be good wasn't enough. Enough for something that is already out dated, but not for something current. I ended up upping my budget by a good 500 bucks, but I also got lucky that my timing had a sale pop up during the time I was looking and managed to stay within budget.

Also keep in mind, if getting a prebuilt from one of the big names, HP, Lenovo, there is little to no room for messing with the bios in order to change ram timing, overclocking, etc. They build a "safe" system and lock it down. Doesn't matter if its called a gaming machine or whatever. The specs you see is what you get, all you can do is add ram or more hard drives and live with it. FOr me, not an issue, my days of fucking with that shit are long behind me.

If you havn't add the Canada Computers and Memory Express site to your list of places to pour over what they have and where costs really end up. Just be aware that some of the prebuilts you find on CC are what I'd call sketchy, either odd ball names that use used parts, or they mix and match old outdated video cards with quasi-current processors to catch people who are only shopping processors and not paying much attention to what video card it comes with.

Wasnt going to start a whole thread for this. Looking for recommendations for a laptop for a small business. Will be using quickbooks and some sort of software for maintenance reports with pictures and shit. Also what kind of security to get and how to run it. I can use them well enough to get so done what needs to be done but I know jack shit about computers so really just trying to avoid buying garbage.

.these days unless you have a specific need, you're paying for monitor quality and battery life. Pretty much you'll be happy with whatever you find that fits those 2 expectations.

My wife is running her business on a Samsung Galaxy pro 3, she found an open box return at about 40% off

She did buy a thunderbolt 4 dock and runs an ultra wide and a 4k monitor through it

<snip>
Pretty much this. Unless you have some heavy hitting app, find the right size monitor and chassis laptop to roll with it.

FWIW, I bought a cheap(sub $200) laptop to run HP tuner and web browsing about five years ago. It is still going strong.

Usually, my driving factor is monitor size because in general, I don't run my laptop without the power cord so battery life doesn't mean a damn thing.

I bought from HPs website, pick the size , speed and price you are good with, I intended to use an external monitor which I had but never used it, small laptop gets it done.

Scored this thing for $1700 somehow, beast of a machine compared to what I'm used to, mainly for Fusion. Deals to be had.
