Bruno drive. Does it have any use in crawling?

every automatic has it...............

And for the most part they all have shitty gear ratio spreads. Slap a Bruno drive onto almost any manual transmission and suddenly your not stuck with shitty automatic gear ratios.

I bet it has a place in the offroad world it's just that nobody has figured out exactly where that is yet.

Fair bit of heavy equipment uses torque converters but aren't auto trannies.

I have a Yale Forklift for example that has a 2 speed manual trans (2 forward, 2 reverse) and t/c.
Also have a Huber grader with one. That one is weird though, it'll stall the engine. Mostly it allows "variable" gearing in the road gears so you can start in a tall gear.

sifting comes issue in normal manual with bruno.
most people having gearing issues with common autos is because they have shitty engines.............

You can get a Albins with a clutch and a converter. RG runs one in his TT.

The reverse box and transfer case would be a real short package. Some interesting information here.

It seems like if you had a torque converter and had to have a clutch of some kind to then shift gears, or better yet used clutch packs to engage gears, then you just might have a normal auto trans. What is really the issue with current automatic trans gear ratios? Not low enough gearing? Then maybe start to look at a trans that was build after the year 2000 with more than 4 gears. I think a 6L80 has close to a 4-1 first gear.

The ZF 8spd trans seem to be rather robust and some variants have a 5-1 first gear plus double overdrive. I don't really care about the double OD, but it would allow dropping in even lower axle gears and still maintain decent top end speed. They use this trans in a lot of different vehicles, its the 8spd trans used in the JLs and JTs and really makes that vehicle, its also used in several BMWs, chargers, challengers, ram pickups from 1/2tons to HD trucks. Remember these guys from the auto that drives like a stick videos:
They also have videos of an 8spd swap into a 79 series diesel cruiser. Pretty interesting stuff.

I'm sure the newer GM 8 and 10spd trans as well as the ford stuff would be similar, I'm just not familiar with them.

Of course the issue with any of these trans is there size. Th350s, 400s, 904s, and C4s are just substantially shorter trans packages, and typically smaller overall width and depth. Its difficult to package a modern trans in a buggy. I think if your running a full bodied trail rig though, a modern trans should fit and with deep auto gearing it would mitigate the need for any kind of crawler box.
