Damn. Don't feel sorry for her and honestly don't care a lick but 9 years is crazy. however, their country and their laws and he played a stupid game and won a stupid prize.

Swap is already the craze in DC for him. Not sure how popular that is outside the small minority that is loud and vocal which means it should happen any day now.

I've only heard of this through memes. she the one that wanted to eradicate the anthem then got caught with weed in Russia? I thought I saw a meme where they were trading her or something?
 
How many people are in jail in the US overweed for nine years? Never break a law in a foreign country if you can avoid it. She did what she did and now she has to live with it.

That being said I’ve seen a couple trade proposals. Russia want two hardened criminals for her and a journalist. I’m sure Biden will do it. Because we “have to save her”. Although we have people here who have been locked up for decades for the same stuff.
 
How does that sentence compare to what we would give someone for smuggling dope?
I honestly don’t know but I’d guess it isn’t much worse.
 
I'm no expert, but when I travel internationally rule #1 is "don't break laws in foreign countries"...

She's old enough to know better. But also her coach/travel coordinator/team manager should have done a better job informing their employees about international laws.
 
Meh, fuck her. Should have known better, especially with everything going over there right now with tensions between the US and Russia. 9 years it's nuts, but there's a lot of countries where getting caught with weed means life in prison or being executed.

I smoke weed, but I'm not about to get on a plane with it. Especially traveling internationally.

Well, we traded five Taliban members for Bowe Bergdahl after he deserted his post and was taken prisoner. This sleestak will be back in the USA around midterm season. Political pawn is political.

The funniest part about this and would spike us to Barnum and Bailey timeline level of clown world is they wanted to trade her for Viktor Bout. Google that dude, he was the basis for Nick cages character in lord of war and is an ex KGB arms dealer.

They shot her with 9yrs because of US sanctions currently in place with the Ukraine invasion, is my guess.
 
I didn't know why she was there but she was employed / working for a Russian women's basketball team "UMMC Ekaterinburg" at the time and being a LGBQRSTUV public advocate married to a woman which is everything Putin is against... Well then I found this.

I pulled this out of ref below. The rest was complete NPR garbage taking up her side trying to make this Russia's fault but I learnt enough from it for the rest of the story.

So she became a pawn created by our very own congress. And violated a law all by her lonesome. She basically gave herself to them and they had a trap set just for her.
