What's new

Boss wants a drone.

I have Mini4 Pro.

The fly more pack comes with 3 batteries. One is a higher capacity so with the bat in it, you would technically need to register it because it throws it over the 250g limit. With the other two, you don't because you are under weight. I am sure that there are those Mayberry types that will register because of the battery, but I am not one of them and I would think that most aren't either.

You don't have to register it.
I see. It's confusing AF, me trying to figure that out while trying to get what I want with all the damn options. Already regretting not getting the Air, forgoing the second camera.

so you have to register all of these things now? or was that a thing for a short while ?
Any thing over 250 grams is my understanding.

X whatever the DJI mini 4 pro. Get it at Costco and be able to return it in 90 days if you don’t use it/ novelty wears off

I take mine every Moto trip and always pays off with the best shots of the trip

Yeah, Boss.

I just get the Mini 4 Pro. Sure, you could compare features for hours and hours (like I did!!) and get the whole paralysis by analysis for weeks or months OR you could be flying your Mini 4 Pro with everything you need and not worry about taking pro level photos that you aren't going to every do more than email, post to website, or print up to 20x30.

That was the place I got to and just ordered the Mini 4 Pro and never turned back. It's been stellar so far.

Ive had Mavic 2's and 3's. All pros. No airs or mini's. Ive never registered them. I dont think it really matters as the data is being sent to the feds and China anyway as soon as you power it on.

I'm guessing registration only matters when you're doing something sketchy and they need to fuck with you. Unless you're Hunter Biden of course.

So off topic question….I’ve heard of folks getting letters in the mail for flying in restricted zones. Anyone had issue going above 500ft?

My property allegedly looks a lot better from about 2k. What all gets sent back?

It's almost like they encourage people not to register.

I know a guy that flys over 400' regularly. Have never had an issue. :homer:

I think if you are in bum fuck Egypt, nobody is gonna care if you go over.

In town, theyre gonna be on you I think, especially with remote id
I'll be doing some house/yard shots right off the bat. Don't have plans for leaving our property but I will be getting some elevation. Are these things pretty quiet?

Most of my introduction and playing will be low. I also have a park within walking distance.

if the ambient noise level is low they are pretty loud under a certain ceiling.

If it's "illegal" to go above 400' AGL, and they have the flight logs, I dont think it really matters where you're at if they want to fuck with you.

I can hear mine up to at least 200'. Not sure about the smaller ones.

HA, I bet they'd care at my house. I'm on the flight path in/out of Tinker AFB.

When I was in Oregon last month, I was on a dirt road that was pretty thrashed and was getting worse. The spot I was headed was still about 4 miles up and at 5-10mph, thats a long drive.

I was getting worried about getting stuck and/or high centered as I went so I parked and sent the drone and checked out the road ahead. I could see it was going to be too much for the van, or at least more than I was willing to chance in the middle of BFE. Saved me about 2.5 hours of wasted time on the road and possibly getting stuck.

Did the same to see if the trailhead was ahead on the forest road I was on. Drone gets there faster than walking or van and it was 50-50 that the trail I was looking for was real or someone's bad memory.

Sounds like good advice. I could use one to inspect my low pitched roof from time to time. I hate climbing ladders now that I am 71+. :smokin::smokin::smokin:

Just received it today. Got it all charged, firmware loaded and test ran it just before dark. Pretty damn impressive. I ran a battery down and started another. Decided 4 batteries would be better (it came with 3). Ordered another one , also bought the propeller guard, because Dog. Edit: oh, and humming birds hate this thing.

Remember, obstacle avoidance works great, until it doesnt :shaking:

I clipped a branch at 2:15, and crashed and burned at 2:40.

Crash n Burn

they make upgraded, aftermarket, batteries that will run for 45 minutes or more.

I watched a tracking review. He mentioned they have issues with trees that don't have foliage. Then he took the drine through some pines. It lost him a couple times. I honed in oh a few key points. *Cluttered paths are not good. * it can't see power lines. * when losing power over a forest don't push it. Just find a clearing and land it. It's easier to find when you know it's not in a tree. *never trust areas with skiny obstructions.

If you buy the pro 4 fly more package you get those. That's what I got. Once you start flying it's hard to stop. I could easily see I would need 4. I may get a few more if I really get into this.

The 45 min is based on lab tests in perfect conditions. Real world with wind, obstacles and several shenanigans it's about half that and the smaller bats are around 15 min. I'm learning , if you need longer battery life (larger bats) get a larger drone like the mavik series or the like. They'll get you about 30+

Under 500 is because planes aren't supposed to be flying lower aside from take off and landing, emergencies and a few other special cases. 1000ft over populated areas like a town.

I contacted the FFA about it due to many planes almost daily damn near clipping trees on my land and it somehow turned into that I was in the wrong to use a drone in my land. Yeah....

Low enough at times the walls rattle in my place and the dog goes to hide.

Somedays it's so bad I can't make phone calls or work outside without ear pro on. No idea rhyme or reason in busy vs quiet days. Might be dead silent most of a day or sound like a ww2 air raid. Sometimes at 0200 even so of course that wakes me up.

There's a law about planes not allowed to affect the normal use and enjoyment of a property but the FFA gives zero fucks.

And no, I don't live in line with a runway 🤣 airport is like 2 miles away and just for the little kazoos with wings that can take off or land in like 100ft.

Pretty cool ap. Very easy to use. Fuck if I'm not in a zone. :homer: these drones will shut you down if you're in specific areas of these no fly zones. I read up on the 107. What a cluster fuck of info. Glad I just use this for rec and general fucking around.

Here's the ap I found to deal with it.
