So I'm laid up with one arm a d the use of my left figures. I tried the drone thread but it's for drone owners and is like watching grass grow.

So those of you who have went through the drone phase, and would like to share. Is it worthwhile to get the spendy sucker's 1500 - 2000 or to cheap out 300-500?

My wife bought me one of those $40 drones last year. Those are like a bad dog and won't do what you tell it. One 10 min battery sucks and I don't want to put money into more batts But it's pretty cool to play with.

They didn't come onto my radar until now and I'm thinking need something to do for my 6 weeks of down time.

I live good quality video and images and easy. Fuck anything else. After I'm healed this thing will be cased and used on occasions. So I'm after images, no need for tricks and drone license BS.

Brutal, shoulder recovery sucks ass!
For sure. This is my 3rd. It's been a great experience this time pain wise. I did the pain blocker. Whole damn arm was limp and dead for 2 days. After that' anyi-inflamatory pills 2x a day taken with Tylenol . Only needed that for a week.

I'm just not use to chilling. I need a distraction I can handle.

Buy a used DJI off marketplace. Use it til the novelty wears off, and then sell your used DJI on marketplace.
Market place fags lately make me want to punch babies. I don't want that stress. Not too worried about the money. I don't try to be frugal but when it comes to photography I always raise the price point. Id like new and latest.

I have one I don't use (or haven't used) because it seems like you don't just go into the front yard and start and become successful. They kinda seem like you need a big field (sports field or big parkinglot) to get started. And I never had time to go find a field not cluttered with people to try to fly the thing.

Yep, that's what grounded my cheapo. I finally tied it to a string and weight so i could calibrate the stupid thing. It Worked. Still cant go up high unless I go to the park.

Get a nice DJI if you want photo quality and ease. Others don't come close, make sure it's not a wifi only signal to the controller type but true GPS. It will fight wind and stay locked for you and super easy to fly after 10 minutes. Don't need a ton of space, just go high and play around. Fly more bundles are worth it for the extra batts and stuff. Had 2 buddies go cheap, one (parrot?) went off on it's own never to be seen and another was sub 400 and is a brick.

You will need 2 hands though and need to spin in a circle holding it a few times to calibrate the compass

This is where my head is right now. My arm is slung so the hand is usable. I just wont be able to get it out of trees. so avoidance sensors, GPS and quick shots. I'd like to fly it to way points, mark them and have it autonomously string it all together. I need the remote to have a screen because my phone has a leather case and I don't want to fuck around with all that.

I 'm just into this thing for the photography. So I like the large 1" sensor.

This one has been in my craw.

I am not up to speed on the 3 series but love mine

The zoom is an amazing feature and I believe the pro series have better cameras. You'll have a blast either way :smokin:

Edit: don't forget you'll need an ipad. I have all samsung stuff but the ipad mini 2 fits perfectly in the controller and cheap

Find a Mavic 2 pro used. I've had all the Mavic series (not airs), and the 2 pro was probably the best for pic quality.

Get the Rc controller and ditch the iPad.

I've got a Mavic Air 2. Easiest thing to fly, until you get disoriented and run it into a building, or two, or three. Amazingly, it's taken some hard hits and they did not seem to do any significant damage. It is fun to fly even in winds up to 20MPH.

I have no idea what the newer models have, but try to get multi-direction collision avoidance (mine does not have any left/right sensors, just front/back and down).

Yes I agree , All the ones I'm looking at have "Omnidirectional Avoidance with APAS 5.0"

I had the Mavic Pro 2 for a while and the Mini 4 Pro that I have now takes better pics IMO. Not sure of all the specs and whatnot but just eyeball the Mini's look better.

Object avoidance is going to be better on the Mini 4 Pro as well. Already saved my ass from my stupidity whereas the Mavic2 let me fly it right into a tree, conk out, and fall into a river. Luckily, I found it.

I'd get a new Mini 4 pro. Under weight as well for .gov reasons. Mavic is going to have to be registered. Can't see needing more for a consumer not taking commercial grade photos. I looked at the Air line as well with the dual cameras but still came back to the Mini 4 pro. I could fit it in a cargo pocket and into my smaller camelpack as well so it's easy to take on hikes.

I am certainly no expert so take it for what it's worth but I have spent time with both.

Good luck on the shoulder recovery. I did the whole SLAP rebuild with anchors and bicep detachment a while back. Recovery fucking sucked. All for diving for a ball in a school teacher vs. local celebrity softball game while playing shortstop. I made the fucking play though!! :lmao:

Saw your pics. They were awesome. The one I'm looking at is the DJL Air doesn't need registered unless shooting commercially.

Hmm, maybe I misunderstood then. When I was deciding in June, I thought that Air series was overweight. I know that they have an AIR3 out now but I haven't looked at it at all so maybe that one is?? Or like I said, maybe I read the info on the AIR2 wrong.

The mini4 had better tech that the AIR2 from what I could gather.

The small size was most appealing though for hiking and biking as well.

Sorry, I see I failed to mention its the Air 3
Here is the specs in compare. That Mavic is a heavy SOB . Notice the size difference. Unfolded the mini is bigger?

I've got an older mini 2....it just works, can not dick with it for months, pull it out, charge the batteries, and up she goes. Have yet to crash it or have any incidents lol

The dji mini line is the ticket if you don't have specific drone requirements. With the lack of licensing and relatively low price but still shockingly good cameras and stability, it's the place everyone should start.

Went ahead and pulled the trigger on the mini pro 4 plus :smokin: it will be here Thursday.

As far ad photos go. I couldn't justify the extra $ for the Dji Air 3 . Pretty much the same gear.

Hope it's not a mistake.

No, you are right you understood correctly. The mini pro2 you got is under 250 grams. The others are over so they need registered. The mini pro 4 is now over weight. I think due to Battery size.

so you have to register all of these things now? or was that a thing for a short while ?

I have Mini4 Pro.

The fly more pack comes with 3 batteries. One is a higher capacity so with the bat in it, you would technically need to register it because it throws it over the 250g limit. With the other two, you don't because you are under weight. I am sure that there are those Mayberry types that will register because of the battery, but I am not one of them and I would think that most aren't either.

You don't have to register it.
