For a hiking boot with two eyes above the ankle. Reasonably priced, easy avail, last?

My stock Amazon-bought (yes I did last year ) Sketchers laces broke after very light use.

Ironlace laces are pretty good. Had a thread in OSR earlier this year asking the same thing, and someone recommended those. They hold up very well to mud and water.

Keen veriegated laces are by far the best non-leather laces I have found. Normal cheap laces last a few months at best when used daily, the keen laces last over a year.

Para cord. Buy a 100yd roll and have boot laces for days not that you'll need it because it seems to last far better than regular laces.

I don't know if those are the laces on my Keens or not, but I've never had to replace laces on any of the Keens I've had.

It looks like I'm going with Paracord. I can get 100ft of 550 for $9.95 free shipping. Paracord is always useful.

I love leather laces, and kevlar sounds interesting, but I'll have enough para to lace up an army of boots. I'm building an Army, an Army of zombies, so I will need a lot of laces.

Tks :smokin:

Get some sticky shrink wrap for the ends.

Don't get cheap, chinkanese 550 cord. It will fray, get fuzzy and not go through the eye correctly. Get mil-spec 550 cord or nothing.

I remember trying leather. seems they didn't works out for me due to rain. They would get slimy, stretchy and break. Maybe good in the dry??

I kept breaking laces then bought leather ones. But it hasn't rained here since I bought them.

550 cord.

I hate 550 cord as it's too stiff and doesn't allow much in the way of boot flex.

The Keen variegated boot laces are relatively cheap and are designed to expand and contract, allowing the boots to flex which helps to reduce pressure and pinching issues when walking.

You can get them in boot stores or on Amazon, etc.

I like kg’s boot guard brand kevlar laces. For those saying leather, can you recommend a brand to try? I gave up on leather because I was only getting 2-3 weeks out of them.

Why do you need to buy 550 "laces"? Grab some 550 cord off the spool in the garage melt the ends and stick em in your boots. I dont think Ive had anything else in my boots since basic 30 years ago.

My Ironlace laces have outlasted two pairs of boots

The purpose of leather as far as I've ever heard is when you have expensive boots that last a long time, regular laces are more abrasive and will wear the eyelets out. Leather won't.

The thing about leather up here is that they use copious amounts of salts and minerals which eats leather boots and laces. My winter boots will effloresce for months after winter, just bleeding salt out of them. Even if you treat them with oil it cracks, just cracks soft.

Salt really is the debil.

Interesting. I do usually pull eyelets or wear through them.

I think you quoted the wrong person. I use the Kevlar ones because they don’t burn like nylon does

Yeah it was supposed to be everdouche. He said something about buying 550 "laces".

Yup , I work in ground stabilization which means I'm always dealing with nasty shit like lime , fly ash , dolo and other boot eating material so I gave up on shoe laces and went with a pull up boot since the laces and boots rarely make it through a season.

Leather shoe laces for the win!! Use them to bind the wrists & ankles to stakes of a certain pest at the beach. Remember to wet them first so they can shrink naturally-

This sounds ominous and oddly specific.
