Anyone ever try gun blue on a workbench top? Building a new stand for a lathe which will have a piece of plate steel on top and want to minimize rusting since it'll be harder to clean/spray down the entire thing with wd-40 like I do with my other steel top work table.

Bluing isn’t going to add any corrosion resistance Imo. Hose it down with fluid film or wipe with any oil. Even if you bluit will still need to be oiled
Yea, the areas I can get to will get that...I usually just wipe my other metal tops down with wd-40 after use and that's been fine. It's the areas I can't get to that are covered up by the lathe and splash guard and such that I wanted something a bit more resistent.

Also....blackened might look cooler? lol

CRC corrosion inhibitor in a spray can. I use it on my machines that are out under the canopy where sweat from temp changes is a problem. Lasts a long time too.

Use your lathe and it won't be a problem. Nothing covered in oil and coolant residue rusts.

They also have SP-250, SP-300, and SP-350...
