Pro Comp heads:lmao: Those piles of shit will need another $1K in machine work to make them usable. Stay far away.
:shaking:

I wasted an afternoon and a bunch of marking compound checking over the one I have because dumbass opinions like yours made me wonder. There was nothing wrong with it. They're fine if your goal is to replace a smog era cast iron head with an aluminum copy of what would have been a decent cast iron factory head.

My buddy had a set for a small block Chevy. Complete trash. The valves were hanging up in the guides and the cuts on the valve seats didn’t match the profile of the valves that were installed. The valve springs were also too short. This was close to 10 years ago. I’m sure China has unfucked their quality control since then.

Only gay if your scared of going fast. :flipoff2:
There are 1000's of ways to go fast. Popping the hood of some cool old steel and having some cool old iron under the hood just as capable of going fast....is cool.

Dropping an LS in is the 80's equivalent of dropping in a SBC in everything. Does it work? Sure....but its just gay.

funny. in jet boat forums the 455 is a boat anchor and not worth the effort. hear the same shit all the time about oiling problems and whatever. my boat has a 455 and its staying that way.

Thought the 455 suffered from a garbage valvetrain setup that is silly expensive to correct?

Boost on a 454 or 540 big block should get a smile on your face. You'll need a better radiator though... :flipoff2:

I think so. They were really just a passenger car engine, most with 2 barrels on 'em.

I picked up a '67 firechicken /w a sbc in where the 326 used to be. The 326 emblem on the hood cowl looked good so i left it there. Got lucky af too... turns out the block was a 327 HO from a 65 vette, and the 4sp was an M21 :smokin:

That car made 2 women piss their shorts. No lie

pontiac 455 have larger mains than a 400, and not preferred because of that. the displacement is cool, thats about it

anything pontiac is stupid expensive as well. like 2x the price of chevy stuff. Edelbrock alum heads do not outflow the stock heads unless you port them - big $$$

7-8mpg is another factor making me think about changing powertrains. 20mpg almost double the hp would pay pretty quick at 5 dollars a gallon. built 455 will also not live as long as an ls, according to everyone on the forums

having the car as a jackstand project for a year however - not acceptable. I was trying to avoid doing work twice, ie. heads now and swap later, but it seems this may be the better way to go to avoid a year long project

Do I really need to mill iron heads, or are they pretty forgiving to an overhead? Id be concerned about intake manifold fitment once I mill the heads. Intake is an edelbrock, carb is an aftermarket holley.
