Bj Baldwin on “hot boxin” podcast

I've listened to a few of his interviews, sorta comes across as a soiled rich kid. I'm the top of the game, not many drivers like me, I excel at the technical driving, etc... Sorta killed opinion or desire to listen to much of him.

I stopped following him on social media a while back for the same reason.

It was 90% spoiled yuppie drama, 5% gun posing, and 5% truck related.

All I gotta say is his shooting skills were on point when some pos tried to rob him 10/10

After reading the news stories and other reports it doesnt sound like a robbery. It sounds like two assholes got into an altercation and one of them drew a gun so the other did too. To hear him tell it smith ran up on the two of them (baldwin and girlfriend) shooting at them and then both bj&gf dove for cover avoiding being hit and baldwin returned fire saving the day. Some guy just out of the bue runs up on two people shooting AT them and neither are hit? Right. Im sure thats exactly what happened. No embellishment at all. At least he didnt hit the door frame.

It as just as believable as someone shooting a guy to get lady Gaga’s dogs. There are crazy people everywhere. But you certainly could be right.

I'm also curious about this. The explanations seem too... Convenient.

Dead guy is mad at a gun shop for denying him, so he and a friend are out throwing rocks at their window at 2:00am. But he also has a pistol at that time? Then he "charges at and starts shooting at" two relatively well-known "Instagram gun celebrities" who also happen to be out at 2:00am, eating fast food, in a newer 911 Turbo. Neither BJ, nor his girlfriend, nor his car, nor any bystanders, get hit. But BJ, as a "skilled defensive pistol practitioner" (his words), draws and puts 10 out of 11 rounds on a moving shooting target. Or as some of gun articles described [I'm paraphrasing here] "deployed his weapon system from it's concealed carry retention system and engaged the threat with controlled accurate fire while seeking cover and ensuring the safety of innocent bystanders..." [You can practically hear the gun writers furiously masturbating while they wrote their articles]. Dead guy's friend immediately says "no harm, no foul, it was self-defense", no charges are filed, and a week later BJ is posting about the whole thing on Instagram.

Could just be a strange Las Vegas situation, could be more to it than we'll ever know.

Yeah the more I read the more it sounds like bullshit. Im gonna see if I can get the actual police report. 10 out of 11 shots on a moving target while someone is shooting at him? Oh and the girlfriend of the deceased happened along and took the guys gun from the scene. Im sure thats exactly what happened. What a bunch of bullshit.

Well considering the retainer for their attorneys is probably more than you or I will make in 25 years, there's all kind of stuff that could have happened. I could put 10 of 11 on a moving target at that range, but with someone shooting at me, I dunno, never had it happen, but it's got to make a huge difference. I've been through shoot houses with static targets, cleared room one and shot bad guy, cleared room two and didn't shoot the good guy, stepped into the hall to head to the next room when the instructor pointed out the cardboard guy at the end of the hall pointed in on me. Yeah, I'd be dead if I did that, and that's why the people that are serious about it train with simunitions. I don't know what the extent of BJ's training is, but his GF is a very high level competitor, and he's certainly got the money to school with the best.

Oh yeah, I forgot about that part. Dead guy's girlfriend shows up, stashes his gun, cops show up, then she politely tells them about the gun? Okay...

And then BJ's girlfriend, who is supposed to be a pro tacticool shooter, does nothing except make a brief crying 911 call while she and BJ leave the scene, drive to his father's house, and then make a full 911 call via their lawyer.

I know they live in an entirely different world than I do, and Vegas is a weird ass place where weird ass shit happens. And BJ does seem like a cool dude in person who loves trucks and guns, but gets caught up in baby mama drama and online drama and all kinds of other drama. So who knows what really happened.

Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson said Monday that the fatal shooting of a man last month by the head of a Las Vegas motorsports company was “a clear case of self-defense.”

BJ Baldwin, president of Baldwin Motorsports in Las Vegas and the son of a gaming executive, was having a fast-food dinner with a woman in a shopping complex parking lot at 9640 W. Tropicana Ave., near Fort Apache Road, early on April 22 when two men approached. An altercation broke out “and gunfire was exchanged,” Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Ray Spencer said previously.

Baldwin shot Joseph Smith, 43, during the exchange.

A Las Vegas police report indicates Smith was accompanied by his brother, Kevin Smith, 40. Kevin Smith told police his brother was upset that morning because of a failed attempt to buy firearms from a gun store in the complex.

Prior to the shooting, Kevin Smith said, his brother threw rocks at the gun store’s front window. The siblings left the shopping complex on Tropicana, then later returned on foot, police wrote in the report.

“Kevin had a feeling Joseph was going to do something stupid, but denied knowing what,” the report said.

Kevin Smith said the siblings saw Baldwin and his acquaintance in the parking lot upon their return.

“(Kevin) Smith said Joseph walked up to them, pulled his gun out, pointed it at the female and smiled as he began shooting at the male,” the report said. “Kevin stated Joseph was the first to fire his weapon.”

Kevin Smith told police they did not know the couple.

“Kevin told detectives the white male shot in self-defense and should not be charged,” police said.

Baldwin told police he feared for his life as Joseph Smith approached.

“As Joseph Smith got closer, he turned his firearm toward Baldwin,” the report said. “When Joseph Smith turned his pistol toward Baldwin, Baldwin drew his 9 mm semiautomatic pistol from a holster on his waist and stepped north, taking cover behind a trash can.”

Police said Joseph Smith fired seven times at Baldwin, and Baldwin fired 11 times at Smith. Baldwin said he didn’t know who shot first. Baldwin also said he did not shoot at Kevin Smith, who was unharmed.

Baldwin, who has a concealed weapon permit, then took off with the woman. The woman, while crying, attempted to call 911 and said “we were just in a” and hung up, police said. The pair then drove to the house of Baldwin’s father, Bobby Baldwin, chairman and CEO of Drew Las Vegas, a Strip resort set to open in 2022.

There they contacted an attorney, who called 911.

Police said Joseph Smith’s girlfriend showed up at the scene and found her boyfriend dead. The woman reportedly placed his firearm in her vehicle but later pointed police to it. There was no indication in the police report that she was arrested or charged.

Kevin Smith was eventually arrested on a warrant. Las Vegas Justice Court records show he is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery, attempted robbery and assault with a deadly weapon.

so he probably pulled when guy produced a pistol, even said he didn't know who shot first.

Leaving the scene of a crime, is fully explainable IMO if you do what they did. You claim you left to secure safe surroundings, you thought there might be more coming for you so you scrammed. Just got to make sure you contact the police before they contact you, and if you've got super high powered attorneys all the better. They could have even paid off the GF, who knows.

I was actually surprised it made the news. When I worked for Mirage Resorts we had two murders at the property I worked at and neither one made it to the news. My GF at the time worked in the atrium at The Mirage and her co-worker fell out of a basket and fell 40' feet to his death, same deal, no report of it, even though everyone on property knew David had died on the job, (was not using fall protection).

so he probably pulled when guy produced a pistol, even said he didn't know who shot first.

I read that before and it still sounds like bullshit. But what do I know its not like people who owned casinos in Vegas ever paid people off.
