Pardon if R, I didn't find it anywhere..

Can anybody come up with any possible reason why Biden would do this? Apparently they won't answer that question when it's actually asked, but there's only a handful of reasons I can think of, all of them bad... Yes, the link is pretty eaten up with right wing descriptions of this, but it doesn't seem to be any fabrication by conspiracy theorists.

#NotMyPresident Biden has rescinded the Trump order to ban Chinese Communists from involvement in our power grid. Isn’t that nice of him. He did it in the same executive action that ended the KeystoneXL Pipeline, the National Pulse reports.
THE TRUMP BAN

The Trump-era
order sought to ban, replace, and set new criteria on the bulk-power system (BPS) electric equipment from a foreign country or nation that poses a national security threat.

“Foreign adversaries are increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the United States bulk-power system, which provides the electricity that supports our national defense, vital emergency services, critical infrastructure, economy, and way of life. The bulk-power system is a target of those seeking to commit malicious acts against the United States and its people, including malicious cyber activities, because a successful attack on our bulk-power system would present significant risks to our economy, human health, and safety, and would render the United States less capable of acting in defense of itself and its allies,” the introduction to the executive order
read.

The move “prohibited any acquisition, importation, transfer, or installation of BPS electric equipment by any person or with respect to any property to which a foreign country or a national thereof has any interest, that poses an undue risk to the BPS, the security or resiliency of U.S. critical infrastructure or the U.S. economy, or U.S. national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons.”

One would think that the new #NotMyPresident Joe would want to protect our power grid from dangerous communists. Guess not.

The National Pulse
exposed Biden’s OMB Head as formerly serving as the president of the Center for American Progress (CAP), an establishment think tank that has taken trips to China and co-authored reports alongside a Chinese Communist Party-backed influence operation.

Biden’s son Hunter is also intimately tied to the CCP.

Uncle Joe appears to be selling us out to China.

For those that got triggered by that one:

President Biden has revoked a Trump-era executive order that sought to keep foreign countries and companies out of America’s bulk power systems – principally entities associated with the Chinese Communist Party – as part of his “Executive Order on Protecting Public Health and the Environment and Restoring Science to Tackle the Climate Crisis.”

The executive order, which executes key tenets of President Biden’s climate change agenda, was released on the former Veep’s first day in office.

Section 7 of the massive order, which includes the revocation of the permit for the Keystone XL Pipeline, also revokes several climate and energy-focused executive orders penned by the Trump administration.

Subpoint C notes that “Executive Order 13920 of May 1, 2020 (Securing the United States Bulk-Power System), is hereby suspended for 90 days.”

The Trump-era order sought to ban, replace, and set new criteria on bulk-power system (BPS) electric equipment coming from a foreign country or national that poses a national security threat.

“Foreign adversaries are increasingly creating and exploiting vulnerabilities in the United States bulk-power system, which provides the electricity that supports our national defense, vital emergency services, critical infrastructure, economy, and way of life. The bulk-power system is a target of those seeking to commit malicious acts against the United States and its people, including malicious cyber activities, because a successful attack on our bulk-power system would present significant risks to our economy, human health and safety, and would render the United States less capable of acting in defense of itself and its allies,” the introduction to the executive order read.

The move “prohibited any acquisition, importation, transfer, or installation of BPS electric equipment by any person or with respect to any property to which a foreign country or a national thereof has any interest, that poses an undue risk to the BPS, the security or resiliency of U.S. critical infrastructure or the U.S. economy, or U.S. national security or the security and safety of U.S. persons.”

The DOE was also tasked with identifying existing BPS electric equipment that violated the aforementioned prescription and “develop recommendations to identify, isolate, monitor, or replace this equipment as appropriate.”

Released on May 1st, 2020, the powers provided in the executive order were utilized by the DOE in early December concerning the Chinese Communist Party.

As of January 16, 2021, then-Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette issued a “prohibition order designed to reduce the risks that entities associated with the People’s Republic of China pose to the Nation’s BPS.”

“The order prohibits utilities that supply critical defense facilities (CDF) from procuring from the People’s Republic of China, specific BPS electric equipment that poses an undue risk to the BPS, the security or resilience of critical infrastructure, the economy, national security, or safety and security of Americans,” a press release adds.

Now, according to Biden’s executive order, the fate of the executive order and America’s BPS rests in the hands of Biden’s Secretary of Energy and Director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB):

“The Secretary of Energy and the Director of OMB shall jointly consider whether to recommend that a replacement order be issued.”

The National Pulse exposed Biden’s OMB Head as formerly serving as the president of the Center for American Progress (CAP), an establishment think tank that has taken trips to China and co-authored reports alongside a Chinese Communist Party-backed influence operation.

What’s more, Biden’s son Hunter was previously involved in several business relationships with CEFC China Energy Chairman Ye Jianming.

“After his father left office in 2017, Hunter Biden worked on securing a deal with CEFC China Energy to invest in US energy projects, according to documents released by Republicans,” CNN noted.

Similarly, an investment firm headed by Hunter Biden funneled millions into China General Nuclear Power Corp, a state-owned power company guilty of stealing American nuclear technology for use by the Chinese Communist Party for decades.

We do need a modern updated grid.

But ^ what he said.

The left is in bed with China, it wouldn't surprise me if our next biggest import is electricity within the next 20 years.

We're shutting down coal fired power plants, ramping up everything chargeable and China / Asia is building more coal fired power plants.....

Why? You're really asking that question?

2 big reasons

1. Because Trump Bad
2. Because China good

Yes, I'm really asking this question.

rhetorical question
  • n.

A question to which no answer is expected, often used for rhetorical effect.
  • n.

    A
question posed only for dramatic or persuasive effect.
  • n.

A question to which the asker does not expect an answer.

I don't think Trump Bad even really even fits into this besides a fallback position if they got called on it. They've got so many Chinese business connection that it's almost beyond any rebuttal that this is pure and simple Quid Pro Quo corruption that the Biden family is so famous for..

We do, but why can't we rely upon ourselves to supply and maintain it?

You realize that's part of the plan, if we get rid of all our power plants and rely solely on imported power our nation becomes "green" since we went be producing any more power:rolleyes:

All these solar farms are Chinese and all are hooked to the internet, pretty easy to shut down. Just a way to help tear down the US. Like the Chinese bat flu, we will have a crisis with the power grid the next time the Dems fall out of power and need a major incident to blame on Republicans.

A variety of reasons. Don't forget that the grid needs incredible amounts of improvement to have a chance of making it able to handle the load of electric plug in vehicles. How can he force people to buy them if they can't be charged?

Completely agree, i'm pro coal!! Not advocating for any offshore foreign power just stating what will happen.

CA wants everyone in electric cars and cant even keep their AC running in the summer. good times

Exactly. Other parts of the country will be right with them with the current grid, construction, etc. Add electric cars and boom.

People drive during the day and charge them at night. The sun shines during the day, but does not at night. The charge load will occur when the renewable power available will be at the lowest levels. Maybe it is the pathway to spur new technology in large form, industrial, power storage systems.

yeah, I know, politicians dont think like that.

They only suspended the Bulk Power Security order for 90 days. That's probably how long Hunter needs to get in there and make a killing.

Plus people at home at night running A/C...mega fail.

Also hooked to the sun so they shut off every day.

For anybody that doesn't get it - That EO had nothing to do with "improving" the power grid. It sought to limit the use of products made by companies that the Government questions in the BPS system *cough hack Huawei cough*. Theory being they don't want relays, modems, automation controllers, etc. made by companies that the CCP could be compromising and installing back doors into because the modern power grid has so many automated cyber assets its scary. From an innocent point of view I'm sure it'll be framed as POTUS trying to stamp out cheeto jesus's chinophobia. Most of the utilities use manufacturers from *not china* for their P&C stuff anyway (SEL, GE, ABB, Siemens, ect) I'm sure there is some random network hardware that is at risk, but whatever. I suspect its the generating facilities and municipalities using the cheap Chinese stuff, as well as the solar controllers, but those aren't going to be considered BPS assets most of the time anyway. I think the EO was a good move, but I don't think its elimination is going to expose us to huge risk anyway.

There is already a big need for efficient, inexpensive, grid power storage. The only non fueled technology that really makes sense is pumped hydro but the locations where that's feasible are pretty much already tapped. Short term storage in a plugged in EV is an interesting distant second. I don't think the hanging weights and large scale battery and inverter banks are ever going to be competitive, even a small pumped hydro system would work better IMHO.
The better answer is to react uranium or carbon and turn it into heat and power until it's used up. Then get used to manual labor, walking, dealing with summer heat, and going to bed when the sun goes down.

I am confident there are enough lazy engineers in the world that will say "fuck that" to no AC and the manual labor and will sit down to figure out a solution.

The way to find the most efficient way to do a job is to assign that job to a lazy man.

I'm sure they will... and it'll be Nuclear, gas or coal. :flipoff2:

What I hear, it was announced about a year ago, the world's largest solar farm is to be built over by Kingman, AZ.

“not in my back yard” has been the basis of US environmental policy for decades. It has crippled American manufacturing and independence.

That's what I was thinking, just a few contracts in place and you're good to go. The big guy even has time to get the checks cashed.
