Short: What is best synthetic motor oil that won't break the bank?

Long: I've got a 2004 LQ4(Chevy engine) that I've been using synthetic for ~30k miles(from 32k miles to about 65k miles). My oil of choice was G-Oil because of all the discounts at the time, it was cheaper than dyno-oil:grinpimp:. Sadly, it appears they aren't readily available anymore and my stash is almost out.

Engine only has a super mild cam in it, a mild tune to support the cam, and headers.

So what is a good quality brand that won't take me to the poor house?

Mom has been running Mobile 1 in her 2007 exploerer has 210,000 engine trouble free miles, in the last year we have replaced the radiator, thermostat and housing, heater valve, plugs and altenator, but the engine keeps on running smooth.

Any name brand oil you like, and likely any house brand oil at your local auto parts store will be fine. The all cost about the same at my local parts store unless you're buying the extended interval/high mileage stuff. I run Castrol in most of my junk currently, because that's what we stock at work.

Costco has private labeled syn oil. Haven't used it so no feedback, but I doubt it's crap.
That's what I started using on my high mile s10. Seems fine. Coming from Castro Syn blend.

I've also ran Super tech Syn for a while and didn't notice any diffrence from another Syn oil brand. It started a slight leak(around 225k ish mile), so I'd switch to Syn blend with no leak issue.

Do you have a Rural King near you? If you do, that’s where to get oil.

I use the Mobil 1 synthetic from Costco on all my vehicles. It’s $35ish for a 6 quart box on sale, and it goes on sale all the time,

Can’t complain about it. All my vehicles but one have over 150k miles on them using it. 160k ish on a lezbaru, 170k on my dodge, 154k on my ford, my Bronco and CJ also use it and are over 100k on each but the speedos are way off so unk actual mileage

I run Rotella Gas Engine full synthetic. I pick it up in 5 qt bottles from Amazon, usually for under $20.

I run Valvoline synthetic in everything with Wix filters.

I've been buying the 2.5 gallon jugs of Rotella t6 from Walmart or TSC. I run it in most of my junk.

Use to buy the Chevron delo 400 from Costco when its on sale ($30.00 for 3 gallons)but thats gone now, although I did stockup for enough for another 2-3 years of oil changes in my Duramax LBZ.

In the gasser truck I use Ams oil 15W40 from memory.

Mobil 1 has a rebate going on now. Up to like 30 bucks back.

I buy the 55 gallon drums of t6, run it in everything from mower, tractor, skidsteer, dirt cycle, road cycle, hybrid and trucks and s2000. Change the oil every June in everything that sees less than 10k miles and 10k in everything that sees 10k plus. Run the used oil through the mechanical diesels, probably have more than a million miles on t6 through the fleet.

Whatever is on sale is going to be the best for the price...I usually run either Pennzoil or Mobil 1, although Rotella was pretty popular on one of the platforms I used to wrench on.

lq4 with a cam and headers...
the cheapest garbage conventional 5w30 that you can find, changed at 10k+ intervals
it won't care one bit

actually, according to the guy that sells oil at work, the cheapest oil they can slap the API Sx(whatever letter it was two years ago) sticker onto is a synthetic blend.
Oil isn't what it was in the '70s

I have ran Napa house brand oil in a fleet of large commercial lawn mowers for years....some of the mowers have over 4000 hours on the clock and still run fine. These mowers are used and abused, in dusty conditions, Wide open throttle. Has to be a way worse environment than any car engine sees.

I also knew a tight ass guy that used to take the waste oil from his place of employment to run in his vehicles. He said where he worked they changed oil at 3k miles so he took the waste oil when he needed to change oil in his personal vehicle. His vehicles were junk but they never had any oil related issues.

Mobile1 + 1qt of Lucas in every oil change. I've been running that combo for 20 years and have hundreds of thousands of miles on vehicles using it.

I started running the Wally-world Supertech Synthetic in my pig Jeeps. My 04TJ is clocking 240K miles, the 06 TJ is 150K. I was running Valvoline with a 3000 mile oil change interval. The Stupertech Synthetic price is below the Valvoline dino oil. I am going to maintain my 3000 mile OCI; it has served me well. Jeeps are running fine and still strong.

For synthetic nothing touches Costco pricing - their Kirkland branded oil is 2x five quart juggs for $24.99 ($21.99 when in sale). This is what I used on my previous daily - 2015 Accord.

Miata gets 0w40 Castrol full synthetic (annual oil change)

New to me 2005 F250 SD gets Motorcraft 5w20 synthetic- that is what pops used since he bought it close to 9 years ago - I bumped interval to 3k for oil changes versus 5k he did. At 133k I plan to keep it for a long while.

Ninja 650 gets whatever Kawasaki recommends.
