Besides $1000 what is the difference andyone here has noticed or knows of. Most reviews I read or watch never actually do any actual difference comparisons. Just minor details of what they have done differently with them, such as mods added.

So I have cycled the M4 and its smooth as glass. It is the smoothest gun action I have ever cycled. Can anyone comment on that comparison?

M4 is gas. M2 is inertia. All I got.

This, M2 is going to recoil more but supposedly cycles the dirt cheap crap low brass better than the M4.

M4 is supposedly softer shooting.

3 gunners prefer the M2 because cheap shells.

I thought they preferred the M4, but if that thats the case I can see why they would prefer the m2.

All I know about the M2 is I once watched a youtube video where some eastern european dudes were trying to shoot super fast and after several instances of trying to pull the trigger faster than the gun can actually cycle they got pissed off and threw it.

:lmao: Thats something I want to avoid. Not that in my 30 years of hunting have I ever needed to fire that fast while hunting. Only while doing a 1000 pigeon tower shoot but thats highly specialized.

I'm thinking the m4 will be enough for my 12 ga deer and turkey gun. Mainly I was extremely impressed with the smooth as glass action and the balance of it. Would prefer it with a partial pistol grip vs full, or even a straight grip.

You might want to check out the Beretta 1301 Comp. You can get it with a regular stock. Shoot really smooth and cheaper than an M4.

1301 Comp (beretta.com)

BBL lengths are 24 and 21. I have a 24" with Lance extended tube and light mount clamp with ported Beretta chokes.

It's easier to put an extended tube on than an M-4. Part of me would love a Benelli M-4 in the collection, but I think the Beretta is a better fit for the shooting I do.

Does it jam up with the cheap low brass ammo?

The cheapest stuff I shoot is Estate 1 1/8 oz #6 and #7 1/2 low brass. It hasn't had any issues with them. Haven't tried any 7/8 oz loads in it.

With my VEPR and the Saiga I had before (especially the saiga) I decided to avoid loads less than 1 1/8 oz. They would short cycle my saiga about once every mag, even after a bunch of parts and polishing. It was easier to get better shells than to open up the gas port.

They have a few new models since I got mine:
Marine with 18 1/2" bbl and sights:
1301 Tactical Marine (beretta.com)

Pro model with a blue reciever and recoil absorbing stock:
1301 Comp Pro (beretta.com)

Did you ever run into the double feed issue with your model? They seem to have coined in on redesigning it to avoid the double feed issues.

No issues, whatsoever, but I have only put a few hundred rounds through mine, have probably had it 3 years or so.

A buddy has a TTI M2 and compared to my lightly modified VEPR it's like shooting a 20ga. Very soft shooting, but also 4x as expensive as my VEPR12.

One last question. Is it high maintenance? Does it have to be cleaned after every use or will it run dirty? Did it come with the picatiny rail, becuase I can't find any with one.

Came with the pic rail in the box, but it wasn't installed.

I've only ever wiped down the the workings with a silicon gun cloth then put a bit of oil on the bolt and carrier. Wasn't any dirtier than any of my pump actions, definitely cleaner than the Saiga.
Usually just give it a wipe down after taking it out shooting then oil the wear surfaces.
This is not necessary, but It's just a habit I have gotten used to. The action is the same as either the 300 or 400, can't remember which. Have heard great things about them taking abuse and running dirty, but haven't personally given it much hard use.

I prefer gas guns over inertia.

My 1301 comp is definitely the most reliable shotgun I have ever owned. It eats everything I've thrown at it and just keeps chugging along even when I neglect it. When it slows down I squirt a bit of oil in there and it's happy again.

Bought the m4 and now waiting on a change of address for my FID to go through, until I can pick it up. I'm going to also get the 1301 competition but can't decide on barrel length. I may sell the m4 if, shortly, they go up enough in price from what I bought it. So, if that happens, then I will still have a need for a short barrel shotgun. My 20ga is 26" and thats what I use to shoot anything that is in the air. Waiting to hear back on the barrel length of my fathers Ruger Red Label under over. I find that a good length. I will be using the 12ga for deer, home defense, shooting at any coyotes that threaten my kids or dogs, maybe 3 gun after the ammo shortage has relaxed.

12 ga, is still mostly available around here. Three gunners generally run the longer barrels, and you can run a longer magazine without looking weird.

I know you won't hit the tube extension , but it just bothers me seeing the tube stick out past the barrel.

I'd be interested to see how they shoot side by side.
