So I went to hop in my 81 Toyota to go wheelin yesterday. It tried to start and then wouldn't fire again. I figured I flooded it, but later it wouldn't start and verified no spark.

Previous owner put in a fancy msd 6al-2 and I've had wires pop off before. After checking everything 5 times I found the huge excess of wire from the distributor had touched something and melted.

I figured I fried the msd box, so I went and grabbed a GM control module and wired it up using the diagrams that are all over.

Still no spark with 2 different coils.

Anyone know if grounding those wire out would fry the box, distributor or coil? Im getting tired of swapping parts hoping for the best :homer:

Well I double checked everything today and got spark. I'm guessing I didn't have the gm module grounded well enough. :homer:

Doing some Google'n, the distributor should test 130-190 ohms across the pickup wires, and the coil resistance varies a lot by type, but you can test them also.
