I am looking at repainting a hood, fender, and a couple panels in spots on a work truck. Some of it is due to sun damage and the other is due to repair work that now I want to match. I don’t expect this to be a show queen by any means, but would like it to look decent since I took the time to remove some of the major dents and the previous owner had put a new fender on that doesn’t match. I plan to just use a harbor freight spray gun I have. It has done a decent job for all the work I have used it for before. I’m not looking to break the bank but assume I should get a primer, white paint, and clear to make it all relatively match without repainting the whole truck. Who/what do you typically use?

Can you post some pics? What color are you going from? You may be able to get away with a good scuff, epoxy sealer, base then clear

I like "The Coating Store" I am a newb but they have been good to work with and the products I have used seamed decent.
I sent them a piece to match and they matched it perfectly.

80 grit to feather those scratches (Body filler if needed) 180 grit, high build primer, 180 grit, 220, 320, 400. Then epoxy seal, base and clear.

Kinda what I was hoping. Do you have a go to source/brand of supplies? I have other painting projects I need to tackle at some point. But this one is most pressing if I had to choose.

i liked the looks of the coating store. I will just need to be able to have them match a paint sample.

Find what local auto parts store carries Duplicolor. You can buy a quart or spray cans and they have factory matched colors. It lays down well and matched the victory red on my 2k Silverado years ago. Infact I did the hood with a base/clear from supply place that a friend worked at, at the time and then the bumpers and mirrors with Duplicolor and the Duplicolor came out looking much better.

I use the local paint store that supplys the local body shops. I am a PPG/omni guy, I started with Nason but was unhappy with the local place. Be careful buying online, I bought a couple gallons of filler for about $20 gallon cheaper than local and it was old as shit and had to toss it out. You can check out the Evercoat G2 feather fill high build, you need a 2.0+tip to spray it though its basically a thick sprayable body filler.

They've been using that color for a long time, it's like u8624 or something, check the backside of your glove box

you can buy the paint on eBay already mixed

FWIW I sprayed half a van, same color, same year, same hf gun, with white rustoleum, some tractor supply hardener, and it looked decent from 10 foot

I also sprayed my Silverado tailgate with a can of white rustoleum and it's not noticeable on a work truck

Nice. Thanks.

locally I have access (small town) to Napa and O’reillys. I do have a bigger town up the road I can look into as well. This is a pretty simple paint job but I’m looking at it for more practice for nicer jobs. I have a pretty decent set up for all of this, the paint was my last item and don’t want something g that is going to flake off every time a big hits it.
