Just got my notice of non-renewal from Nationwide, I’ve used them for 10 years.

Any other recommendations for commercial insurance?

The letter said auto repair, welding, fabrication, vehicle modification, roadside assistance(I don’t do this) doesn’t fit their appetite. Also noted trees and brush up against my shop, which I’ve been clearing out since moving in, but have not finished. They must have flown a drone over at some point.

I plan to fix the brush, maybe pair down the business description. This is a perfect opportunity to shop the policy though.

Talk to a private broker and let him do his thing

I had a hell of a hard time finding somebody to cover my shop. My guy rounded up 3 options in a couple of days. All far cheaper than what I was finding.
This. It's what I did and they got me Travelers.

Check with Auto-Owners too, through your independent agent.

I have a parts business and was insured through Liberty Mutual until this year, I spoke with my agent and a bunch of companies are dropping small business, not sure why. He got me going through The Hartford....not sure if they do repair shops or not.

When I had my shop I used Frankenmuth Mutual. I had a claim and they were great.

I had a policy through Bribek. They just non-renewed me for “fabrication” and “racing” products or some shit. Currently in the same process, shit pisses me off, trying to run a business by myself is enough of a pain as it is.

Place I applied with sent me an application that looks like a test to be an astronaut.

My work we are small business. Are being dropped because of a 9k claim. Owner tried to pay out of pocket to go away. Current premium is 72k a year for the compound of coverages. In still not sure on every detail.

I can send you my old commercial brokers number if you want. Got me some really good deals.

New laws allow them to judge you off satellite images.

Maybe that’s where they got the fabrication from. It’s still on my sign but I’ve taken it off my website and Google page.

Thanks everyone for all the recommendations!!

Satellite images make sense, no need for a drone pilot.

Exactly!

Running a small business is hard enough, it’s just one more thing on top of the heap of shit.

Fuck auto-owners. They jewed my dad out of paying for storage "because it wasn't itemized on the receipt" after my dad's ride blew an oil line and needed to be towed/stored for the weekend.

He's had them for as long as insurance has been a requirement (he's 80+ now)

What state are you in OP

EMC and United Fire do the best job around here...

any chance your a napa autocare? The autocare website has a shop insurance section with lots of options.

I've had farmers alliance for the last couple years. Haven't had to use it but have good coverage for a decent price.

Farmers because they've seen a thing or two.
They, out of the blue sent me a notice of cancellation for my homeowners for 'undisclosed reasons'
I went to their competitor and go the same coverage cheaper
I wasn't going to let it play out, so I went and cancelled the rest of my policy, and you can send a check for the remainder
next month, I get a letter asking why I cancelled :confused:

They did similar to me. I tried to go with the farmers agent that insured the prior owner. Was told he was grandfathered in and they didnt want my money. A yearish later a farmers agent called promising me the best rate ever!!!!:homer:
