Long story short, I have an old d44 ARB. RD06. I took the diff cover off to change the oil and noticed the cross shaft was broken. It still functioned properly. Because it is the old style arb, the part number is no longer available. The cross shaft is 15.5mm or just a hair less than 5/8". I polished a 5/8" grade 8 bolt down to the right size and drilled a hole for the retaining pin. It looks pretty good.

Any thought on how this will hold up? Some rough hardness testing says that the stock cross shaft is about the same hardness as the grade 8 bolt.

Also, if anyone has a line on ARB part number 060103, I'll take that too.

Thanks,
Phil

I'd be a lot happier with something like this

I spent hours on McMaster's site looking for something like that. Thanks!

Any ideas how to drill a hole through a solid piece of tool steel?

A quality drill bit and a mill would be the best way. Hardened tool steel isn't difficult to drill.
