I asked about stripping ano off parts to build a raw/clear rifle. Well i got off my a$$ and did it today, with some mixed results.
Lots of different brands/mfg bought from about 10 different sources. So no true hard line to establish one over the other.
For the most part the finish surface came out fairly consistantly but some are wildly different.
The stock and h/g are as ordered and un touched.
The upper/lower buffer and chg came out much darker. I assume the bft was because it was last in the process.
The majority of the small parts worked great and came out with a very clean and consistant finish akin to the stock. Most were black a couple were grey/siver.
Obviously most are billit, i assume the upper/lower are cast and thats why they blacked themself's so badly dispite being raw/clear when they went in.
First pic is pre stripping rough assembly, the rest are after.
The chg, trigger guard, and back plate are all strike ind. The back plate and t/g came out great, and they went in the first batch, the chg was last (may not had enough time)
The grip and bft went in the same batch and cleaned completely differently.
I watch quite a few vids and most used lye or oven cleaner which is foul to use, one used Winks rust stain remover and one used zep concentrate ind. Degreaser. I used the zep because it was seemingly the least foul and worked very well for the most part.
