I assume it would work fine? Internet says no, but the internet is retarded.

Issues with longevity? I'm entirely confident with AC systems. But I thought the oil for lubrication is in with the refrigerant, and doesn't actually just sit in the compressor.

My house has those stupid horizontal sash windows, and I have a couple of window ACs from the old house.

I want AC in the bedrooms, thinking of just putting them in sideways.

are the windows wide enough to install it normally with a plywood panel closing up the rest?
I can't imagine it would be good for it, but only one way to know for sure.

Yes. However no good purchase on the sides of the units to hold it.

I supposed I could rivet some angle aluminum to the sides, but that means going to town to get some, and I would almost rather just be hot.

I'm going to be in a similar situation during my remodel, and a am going to decide between the portable ac unit or building a plywood sandwich in a window to hold the shaker

use a portable ac in the bedroom upstairs so I don't have to run the central ac on kill to keep it cool up there. old house, shitty insulation, no attic venting.

build a plywood frame.
ducted portable ac units kind of bring the suck.

sheetmetal screw some 2x4s to the side of that trash and call it good.

That's kinda where I'm at, I have 2 window units and 2 freebie portables, and a brand new in box portable I should probably just take back

They are fine, as long as you get a dual hose unit and wrap the exhaust hose.
it works.
It's just more PITA than one stuck in the window.
takes up space on the floor.
might leak onto the floor.
if I could actually fit a window one into that window I would have built a plywod frame and jammed one in there, but 18w and opens 14 tall.
I didn't want to stick one in the big window because we often just open the windows. We only use the AC when it's proper hot. maybe 3 weeks out of the year.

I swear to you I looked for a while and when I bought the portable unit like 10 years ago there wasn't a damned thing that would fit.

but for $160 the portable unit might be getting replaced.

Ive been wanting to convert a Midea U air conditioner for my bedroom in my RV.

Is that worth doing? You can probably get a mini split from Mexico for $600, as in, check Facebook, somebody will stock up on them for 400ea in Mexico and bring them back for resale

I get it may be a little smaller and easier to package your way

A window mount mini minisplit would be pretty slick.

Might work if it is a scroll compressor. Doubt it.

Unfortunately there's no wheels on this house.
Put it on a barge. Or see some other responses in regards to this.

Who are you and why are you trying to figure out the fastest way to to make these units not work :flipoff2:

I'm more of a hardest way possible for little to no actual gain.:shaking:
A mini split has it's own problems to address mainly the size of all the components.

It was just something I want to do... The midea units are really like mini splits, the indoor/outdoor units are just connected by copper line and wires as you can see in the pic above. So mounting the inside unit above my bed in the somewhat under utilized cabinet seemed like a easy thing to do.
Likewise putting the condensor in my "un-used" generator compartment seemed pretty easy.
