Need a turbo for an 01 Ram 3500 6spd. Are the auto turbo's the same? My 01 auto looks the same but a few websites list a different part number and I'm confused :homer:

Yes, they are. Current Mopar part numbers are as follows:

R5017787AE - Reman - Automatic 2000-2002

R5017509AA - Reman - Manual 2000-2001

if theyre the same part why two different part numbers?

I'm guessing he was saying yes to them being different.

IIRC, that year auto is the hy35, which is known to be one of the worst turbos put on a 6bt. Tiny exhaust housing is restrictive and causes high drive pressure which can cause a array of problems.

Nope, HX35W on this one

Thanks, looks expensive but might as well get the right one

That's what you have, I'm talking about the auto version.

I wouldn't get an expensive hx35, they aren't bad for stock. But there are much better options without getting too custom. Like I said, the he351cw is a great upgrade for cheap.

Looking into it now. Also considering aftermarket options but I don't know what is good and what is close to stock or that I can use with stock injectors

I put one on a ve pump 12v and it was pretty easy. Oil lines and exhaust manifold bolted up. Needed a new down pipe, and different intake tube, and modified ic pipe/boot.

They spool waaaaaaaaay faster, and flow more air over all. They also have the best internal wastegate design out there. Plus $350 on ebay
