Been wanting to build one for a long time, Got a 45 Cj2a tub, 70' buick 455/th400 with the oiling system fixed, 2wd scout beam front end with discs, tacoma rear diff.
Curious on what I should look for on suspension, spring under with the toy springs in the back and a single leaf up across the front maybe?

Originally I wanted to build the 2a as a mild wheeler with all the random parts I had laying around. One of the first civ willys build with a 11,xxx sn, but a rat rod would be cool too.

Started as a 41 chevy cab, the rest was all handbuilt 2x3 box frame etc. You could do an awesome rod with your willys,

Having built a flatty to wheel it can be frustrating to say the least. Even with having to shove 40lbs of shit into a 1lb bag to make it a crawler I'd still recommend it over the flat rod idea. I used to like em but they got played out. Just my 2 cents.

Rat rods are just shit boxes that aren't built right or unfinished. I guess if you are cool with that then you have the right idea.

42 ford cab, 34 Chevy grille, narrowed 48 ford tailgate, homemade bed sides on a Toyota 2wd frame, explorer rear end, 5.0 and t5, suburban 3rd row leather seat

I have a 28ish model A front end, I looked into splitting the beams, hydraulic brakes, etc, and i just couldn't justify the cost

I don't like the 2wd jeep look, I like ratty "vintage" 4wds with a certain touch, I'd love to have that with an EFI V6 on 33s patina, but clean sliders bumpers and cage

My father in law had a '54 Oldsmobile rocket 88 4 door with the top cut off and back doors welded shut I thought it was a cool. Here's a picture of a picture that was taken before senior prom.

Nice, my problem is most of them I see, the builder makes no attempt to, even build basic safety.

i don't build rat rods, but i do build shitty cars.

curiuos to see what you come up with, sounds like a cool project!

I dont plan on building something unfinished or a pos, a rat rod to me just makes me think of Frankenstein vehicles with all kinds of different parts.

Seems like a waste of a real Willys tub to me. Guess it depends on what you mean by rat-rod. If you mean cheap hot-rod they can be cool. Rat rod to me means "This is just a piece of cobbled together shit but I'm gonna call it a rod instead"
