Any reason to go D70 over D80?

Before I take out my chop saw and commit to one or the other I figured I'd ask ask in case there's something I haven't thought of.

D70 out of a Dodge motorhome (so not a smooth bottom), need to verify exactly what variant it is.

D80 out of a mid 90s DRW Dodge 3500

In either case it'll have to be narrowed (cut to fit 35spl shafts) and the drums are gonna get swapped out for discs. Ground clearance isn't an issue (99% street) and strength isn't an issue (both are overkill).

What’s the intended use, other than 99% street?

Ring & pinion ratios is something I’ll look into if D70 is more than sufficient and has D70 & D80 to choose from.

My Ranger. Worse thing I'm gonna do to it is load a few thousand pounds of shit in the bed, put it in low range and dump the clutch on pavement. But it's only got 150hp and no plans for big tires.

Can't really utilize the super deep D70 ratios because I gotta go down the highway and I'm limited by the front D35/44/50. It has 3.73 right now but I have D44 3rds from 3.33 to 4.10 with no gaps so that'll probably get tossed in.

I'd grab a junk yard 14bolt and use it over either the 70/80 just because 14bolts are sooooo much easier to setup.
in the last 6 weeks my buddy here has got 4 14 bolts for 100 each and found another for 85 on face book. go 14 bolt all day for the ease of set .
but if you have the D70 use it.

Would the posts be called poots or toots?
Idk, I think its gonna end up in the Shipped Pants thread.

Honest answer. Whichever is cheaperest. IDK if they make 1310 to 1410 adapters joints. I'd get an axle with a flanged pinion mount

About 10 years ago my buddy Todd cut up 3 complete 14 bolts with a torch and tossed them in his dumpster. He couldn’t give them away.

And you can get them cheap with factory disc brakes. No swapping drums needed as they were planning to do with the 70/80.

Thanks guys. Sounds like there's no big difference in this case and I'll just measure them up and choose based on ease of fabrication.

He has both drivelines, hopefully a tape measure, wormgear clamps, cut off wheel of death and a welder, that is all the adapter joints that he needs.
I have a double cardan shaft out of a Superduty that has Ford companion yokes on both ends so I'll pony up for the Ford pinion flange for whatever axle I use and shorten that.

No idea if it's front or rear or 1350 or 1410, it's on the top shelft and I haven't looked. :homer:

This is an exercise in choosing between two axles that are already on the shelf.

Wouldn't it be funny if your favorite member had that exact flange just sitting in his stash :flipoff2:
