We have a cigar thread, but what about pipes?

With the cold weather rolling in I’m kicking around changing from cigars to pipes. It’s also nicer to pick how long you want to smoke for instead of an hour or hour and a half.

Any recommendations on tobacco or pipes and styles?

:smokin:

I found an old pipe and package of tobacco from an old farmer in the 55 Ford F600 I got a week or so ago. I have a friend that was big into them for a while and would buy and sell them on ebay. I guess some of them are worth big money. He also carved a few out nice ones out of wood and sold them too.

boswells is local to me. I get their blends. I am wanting one of their pipes some day.

Fawk sirching. They can merge. :flipoff2:

Shape can impact the flavor if your palate is sensitive enough. Mine is not.

As for tobacco recommendations, I really like Cornell & Diehl mountain camp. I've currently got close to 40 different blends jar'd up. Similar quantity of pipes.

Well, I put this order in today.

Any of you guys smoke pipe tobacco in your house? My wife usually gets pipe tobacco scented candles. Figured the real thing will smell better. :smokin:

Congratulations

I don’t like to smoke anything inside. Just puts a smoky film on furniture, clothing, fabric, and me , reminiscent of a 1970’s bar room.
But you might find it to be a better experience than I do.

Cult blood red moon is awesome. One of my favorites. I have 3 jars of it. Captain black is my go to in the shop and camping.

I have smoked inside before when it was freezing outside. I keep all the fart fans on over night to help clear it out. It's not gonna tar up your stuff like cigarettes will but it definitely leaves an odor. In my experience it takes about a week for the smell from one pipe to fade. Luckily it's usually not an unpleasant smell.

I smoke English type tobacco mostly, a couple mild flavored ones, and I have a few nice pipes. I have a couple of Nordings - one is a pretty big "sitter", which I personally really like. Peterson pipes smoke very well, I have a Peterson Mark Twain that my wife got me - it's the best smoking pipe I will probably ever own, you can just go over and over all day with it, quite unique in that respect.

My petersons are among my favorites. I've got some savinelli and nording pipes as well. All the major names.

Estate pipes from antique stores can be a less expensive way to try different shapes and styles. I've got several I've restored from the 50s that are awesome smokers.

I second the English blends. They are my preference when I'm reading or relaxing after a long day.

Aromatics are good when others are around or when I'm not as focused on the pipe, like when I'm in the shop.

Got my order today. Captain Black is pretty tasty.

This did not stay lit past the middle portion. Guessing I’m going to have to learn to pack it. Tried the 3 pack method (child, woman, man thing :homer:).

Once I get that down and I can enjoy a whole pack, or bowl, I guess, this will be quite enjoyable.
