Years ago I had a Motorolla that had an micro-HDMI output on the phone. Apparently technology moved backwards and it doesnt exist now. Are therr any phones that still support it?

Chromecast is plan B, because it eats tethering bandwidth like no tomorrow, which is stupid when I can just use regular bandwidth and hdmi out.

Thanks

Ya, Samsung phones with the USB-C port convert to HDMI with the right cable/adapter.
The drawback is, I'm not sure it charges the phone while you're using HDMI.

You just need a $25 usb-c hub that has the charge port and HDMI output
if you have an 2019+ smart tv and samsung with One UI2.5 you can do wireless dex which basically turns your phone into a pc,uses the tv as a screen and your phone as a touch pad
I think it also does wireless screen sharing/mirroring

well shit, didnt see this in the list of features when shopping for my new phone, i am on a Motorolla z4 now and like it, but this hdmi thing is kind of important.

Thanks for the replies!

Why do you say Chromecast eats more bandwidth? Just curious, I've done both and never noticed much difference.

When you use chromecast, it doesnt go device to TV through wifi, it goes through the internet (which is kind of dumb). Also, even when chromecast is at idle (i have a little HDMI dongle), it eats bandwidth unless you turn it off. Since I m using mobile, it has to be tethered for the chromecast dongle to use as wifi, and tethered limits my bandwidth to 15gig vs 50gig for mobile. This is verizon.

I didnt realize this until I got the dongle. Its a non issue in home environment, but it is when using metered internet

Is that the same for smartcast on a smart TV?

Google's Chromecast is an excellent little streaming device that offers an easy and affordable way to get content from the little screen to the big one. The thing is, when you're not using it, it can use over 15GB of data every month just idling. That's a pretty significant amount for anyone on a metered connection.Dec 28, 2017

I think this is only for the chromecast device.
