Scored this with a 2" tube die for a song. I'd like to make it a vertical unit and put a ram on it.

I can't recall if there are available kits.

Off the cuff I'm thinking of doing a short stroke cylinder that pushes the ratcheting arm. Not sure on that though.

i doubt it, that thing is designed around being manual. probably have to make something yourself.

That looks like a very well thought out manual bender and a very poor candidate for both the things you want to do. Chopping down the top plate and getting rid of the ratcheting part would probably let you adapt a ram, but I don't know that I'd try to run the ratchet with a ram, that seems painfully slow.

Could you do a hydraulic motor with a reciprocating linkage off it (think wiper linkage) that could run the ratchet? It would be way faster than a double acting ram and you wouldn't be stuck running it in and out to get a couple degrees. You'd just have to get the stroke nailed down so that one rotation got you one notch.

have you used it?
I have a row-the-boat set up (like that, different flavor)
I also thought that I would like to convert it, but........it isn't that bad (shrug)
so I row:grinpimp:

I haven't used it. From what I remember with a long bar you just have to walk it sorta. I'm not looking for speed. Just ease of use to save my back. I have a local kid that does labor for us like moving boxes and helping rearrange furniture. I'm not opposed to using him if all else fails.

I'm thinking of mounting it to a cheap Harbor freight roll cab. Sit it on top to bend vertical if I can. That points the ratchet down so the bar would be kinda short. That's where the short stroke cylinder idea comes from.

I'm gonna look it over closer tonight to maybe get a better idea. Wiper arm on a gear motor may work.

I have space in the yard to use it as is. But that would require a concrete slab to be poured. I'm not opposed to it. Just don't know how large of a pad to pour so the bender is stable. The pad would be mounted in dirt.

So after smashing my thumb last night it looks like I need roughly 12" of stroke. I don't mind the speed so I am thinking a double acting cylinder could work. Over the weekend I'm gonna look into it more. I'm also not rulling out a winch either since I have a HF 12k that I can use.

Just something to do the work to actuate the bar.

I think with a little bit of thinking you can come up with a good way to run it with an HF over hydro ram. From there you can either leave it flat or convert to vertical since the machine itself is taking all the force and won't jump around.

Or just sell it to me for $100 more than you paid.
