We have been getting RV magazine (Good Sam club?)

I have noticed several ads for tire pressure/temperature monitors. Are they worth it, or just a gimmick?

Bling for safety sake
Imho
Great if you don't maintain yer stuff
Got a present coming your way perhaps..

Fancy toy more or less then

Being a RV noob I’m pretty OCD about everything, checked tire pressure three times before pulling out on our first trip

Never seen the temp monitors, but I do carry a 3m heat gun and periodically check temps. not for any real numbers but variances between trailer brakes or bearings.

Never had one way off the charts so really couldn't tell you a good temp from a bad one

If you can't hold your hand on trailer bearings for more than a couple of seconds....they are too hot and need attention IMHO.

Both grandfathers were truck drivers. I remember them doing a walk around no matter what they were pulling. I’m good at eyeballing tires, I may need to pickup one of those ir thermometers since they are everywhere in this scamdemic

Just enjoy the trip.
Your p.m. Regime is most likely better n most!

It only takes me a couple of minutes to check the pressure with a digital gauge and I get a chance to eyeball the tires/axles firsthand. I check 'em as the engine is warming up every time we move. I never knew bulged tires were a thing until I had to maintain a RV. Does the spare have a wireless monitor? Be sure to check the spare just as often, too.

After moving to CA and starting to tow in real heat, I picked some up. It's amazing to see the tire pressure variation occur. I'm more concerned about flats, though. When towing, I can't see my trailer tires at all, and I'm not entirely confident that I'd notice the extra drag from a low/flat tire, until something catastrophically bad happened. I view it as cheap insurance. Mine screw onto valve stem. If you install a spare, you move the monitor over to the spare.

I use the TST tpms on my trailer. The banded sensor style. They are reusable as well so moving from rim to rim is possible.
I like it because it gives me time to pull off if I end up with a slow leak that could otherwise turn into a blowout.

One thing I like about the one I have is that it can be programmed for multiple trailers and can be position specific in the display for up to 24 tires. Programmable alarms for pressure and temp. All Products

Yes I do a walk around at stops, but a lot of revolutions of a tire happens in the 300 miles between them.....

I don't run them, but have thought about getting some on a few occasions.
I check my tire pressures every time before I leave home (or the campground). And also give all the tires a visual when we stop for gas, breaks, etc. The biggest benefit of them would be if I run over something while I am towing and develop a leak. The monitor would (hopefully) alert me before a tire blowout which would ruin the tire and probably F up the toyhauler. So far I haven't had a tire blow out, but have had at least 4 that developed bulges on them en route over the years.
If I was to get some, I would get the ones that screw on the valve stem so I could move them between all my trailers.

Thanks for all the input:beer:.

My ‘07 Tacoma has the tire sensors, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to have them on the trailer too. Looks like I have a little research to do on which ones to get

I have them through my truck dash infotainment (F350) and love them.
I am a religous tire checker and they have greatly improved my RV experience.

it's been pretty hot here lately, over 100* even. at some point one of my two super old crusty spare tires exploded  i'll have to get a picture tomorrow :rasta:

as for monitoring, i'm a big fan of the hand-near-wheel method and the annual air pressure check. But i don't live in the thing, so it's an annual maint. rodeo and then just occasionally used in between
