I had to open my working r134a system to replace the heater core on the 2000 Grand Cherokee. Refrigerant was vented out and system opened. A small amount of oil leaked out, like a tablespoon or so. I have vac pump and once I make sure system has no leaks I will refill as per the sticker (24oz r134a). My question is- do I need oil? Does the oil come out when I pull the vacuum? Would that tablespoon of missing oil make a difference to the life of the compressor? I would suspect most of the oil stayed in the system, in the low spots.

Oil will not come out when on a vacuum. I would add about what u lost directly into the compressor or better yet flush the compressor and lines and add the proper factory amount if u want to be 100% sure.

A few cans of ac flush. U need to disco the lines...flush them along with the evaporator and condessor. Pull the compressor and spin it and most if the oil will come out. Its a pita but the only way to be sure.

19 out of 20 times i would just add a small amount if oil and recharge.

I'd add about what you lost. +1 on new drier.... Better to do it now instead of after you realize it's fawked.

I wouldn’t worry about the oil. You might want a new dryer.

Yup. I can't remember, but if it's an orifice tube vehicle, might as well spend then $3 for one of them as well.
It wouldn’t hurt to pull the orifice out to inspect/clean. Doesn’t need to be replaced unless something wrong. (Highly unlikely)

9/10 times the bastard gets messed up on removal, they're literally a couple of dollars. Never hurts to get a new one. Being Chrysler though, it's probably a txv setup though..... I can't remember off the top of my head.
