As countries in the European Union (E.U.) begin reopening to other member states, Americans may be left on the outside. According to a report by The New York Times, as E.U. officials finalize a list of who can visit the bloc as of July 1, Americans, as of now, are not included. The reason: The country has failed to control the spread of COVID-19.

In addition to the United States, those from Russia and Brazil are also unwelcome, according to the list. According to Johns Hopkins University & Medicine, the U.S. has the most cases and deaths of any country in the world, with 2.3 million cases and over 120,000 deaths. According to The New York Times, cases in the U.S. are beginning to increase again, with 26 states reporting an increase in confirmed cases.

The creation of a common list of outsiders who can enter the U.E. is part of an effort to fully reopen its internal borders among the 27 member states, as free travel and trade among members is a core principle of the bloc. Previous “piecemeal” national policies have led to mixed results. Countries on the lists have been selected based on a combination of epidemiological criteria. The benchmark is the E.U. average number of new infections over the past 14 days per 100,000 people (currently at 16). The United States is at 107, while Brazil’s is 190 and Russia’s is 80, according to The Times.

in the states 140 years ago and I can't find any reason to go back anyway.

STFU newb :flipoff2:

EU is just continuing the daily bashing of the US. Those fuckers hate everything about us except our money.

We're not in the EU but we can't travel to the U.S. either
Can't even ship regular packages by mail :homer:

Good.

The 'Regular Americans' need to be penalized. You know, the guys who think it's all ok.

What really needs to happen is their kids need to be affected.

Then we'll see.

So we can criticize the EU for being racist and xenophobic now?

seems only fair considering the rhetoric at the beginning of Covid.

We slammed the door shut when their case load was rising. Only fair they might want the same until we show a consistent drop. Especially considering how much tourism comes from the US. Bet the Tourist industry over there would rather we could travel though.

I lived there in the 60s and 70s as a child. Born in Germany, actually (hence the screen name). No driving interest to ever go back.

Yeah, I'd say this hurts them more than us.

It's time to drop the foreign aid and level out the debts.

America will be one of the first countries to reach herd immunity while the rest open and close their economies every time it spikes. It will take them years to get back to anything close to normal.

Other countries have already achieved herd immunity. The US *will* shut down again... already talking about reversing openings in TN because of spikes. This won't end any time soon, IMHO, unless there's open rebellion (people just ignoring) against it.

Sounds good, my ancestors rolled the dice and got on a boat to cross the oceans for the complete unknown here in the states 140 years ago and I can't find any reason to go back anyway.

The same here third generation on my dad's side immigrated from Wales and Germany.

Nope. There is no way people will willingly go backwards in this process. At some point the need to feel normal outweighs the concern over the virus as we have seen that most will not be significantly affected. Also there will be absolute rebellion and more riots now that governments have shown an unwillingness to do what it takes to chase anyone back inside for the virus OR the riots.

Which countries? (Serious question)

Immigrants that rape women and turn cities into slums pouring in over the Mediterranean is a o.k.....but americans and a little virus is enough to get you guys scared.

No wonder a crazy short fucker with a weird mustache was able to take over your continent :homer:.

Italy, Spain, France, and Germany look like they're doing pretty good in the new cases department nowadays.

Makes sense, they were the first in EU to get hit. This works in rings rippling outward from the outbreaks. We saw it here in NC. Large cities hit first then the surrounding counties echo out from there. It is going to take some time to get through the entire US as it is so large.

meh.

anyone that thought they were going to follow through with their international travel plans this year was a fucking idiot.

we already moved ours to next year.

The blindingly obvious point is you're calling them cowards for doing the exact same thing we did. (and you probably cheered because our dear leader said it was a good idea)

They criticized the US when the US closed things down, so now that the shoe is on the other foot, seems fair to give them shit the other direction.
