Looking at picking one up for a retro build. There are multiple places selling them. I assume the majority of them come from the same manufacturer. Does anyone here have a recommendation? Not looking for something loose fitting or pitted up like Tulsi Gabbards face. Not paying Colt prices. The last one I saw for sale went for $400.

I have one of the Ace repros. It’s a little bit more loose than the factory SP1 I also have, but it’s a very good reproduction. The powder coating they used looks and feels just like the original Colt coating.

Mortar it a couple times and it’ll be tight as a tick.

No, reproductions are ok. Just want a tight fitting stock. I’ve read a post on ar15.com about one fitting like a commercial stock on a milspec buffer tube.
It’s not that loose. It’s not coated inside the stock as well as it is on the outside and I suspect that is why. I’m usually pretty particular about details, but this doesn’t seem to matter to me.
I picked it up at RTG when I was passing through about a year ago and ended up using it to replace a brace when that horse shit happened.

Anybody got any close up pics they can share?

The originals are coated in Vinyl Acetate. If someone is making a repro and is a sticker Powder coat may not pass. Here is a thread on ARFCOM about them.

Wish I had picked up the original I found at a gun show for $100 some time ago. I've always wanted to build a gun based on what my dad carried in Vietnam

The Double Star ones are oos. I ended up picking up one from Delta Team Tactical. I got an anodized one. These are all made in Taiwan btw.
