This is a new full-float install on a Rubicon Dana 44. About 3,000 miles since installed and not more than 2 hour long road trips so far on 38" tires. Spindles are warm to touch but not unbearable. The bearings look good but I wanted to do a full inspection before switching to Stage 8 locking spindle nuts. Right side was probably 10 degrees warmer than left side. Is this normal wear and what is best way to set preload? I cant feel any grooves or rough spots.

Right side.

I don't have anything to help you with on this, but I do have a question. Those spindles, is it a kit? If it is, what's the brand and who sells it? If not, do you have a parts list? You can PM me the details so that we don't mess up your thread here.

Thanks and good luck...

I would run it. I don't think your bearings should have preload. I think there should be
.001-.003 end play.

Run it, justs like the coating is wore off. Does it have standard hub seals? In the pics that area looks fine.

Looks absolutely fine, no signs of heat.

Are the hubs lubed with gear oil or greased?

Will,
It is a Teraflex kit.

Winchested,
The bearings are lubed with gear oil. During initial assembly I packed the bearings but the grease dissolved/mixed into the gear lube. Does it matter what weight gear oil I use?

Nope as long as they are getting oil.
I assume you need more gear oil than you would with semi float in the diff.

75-140 or 80-140 is what I use in 1 tons.

My friends run that as well in they JK rubicons.

I only ever ran 80w90 in my Dana 44s.
