I’m not much of an internet guy but hell, this Corona bullshit has me making a lot of progress on the Scout and I figure I may as well start a build thread.

A little background. My grandpa bought a scout new back in 1964, (we still own it). My dad traded a 1968 Camaro after high school in the late 70s for a Scout and as it goes with Scout owners, he owned a couple. I was given his scout when I was in high school (about 1998) as my first vehicle, it’s been in my blood ever since.

My last Scout prior to this one was a makeshift crawler that I never gave the love and care it deserved

Fast forward to 2019. I get a call from a buddy that says his friend has a neighbor with a Scout in the backyard, I head on over, knock on the door and ask if he wants to sell it. $750 later I have a complete 1976 345 T-19 SOA Scout.

I it running roadkill style in about an hour but holy shit it’s fawking PURPLE! All four tires are flat and trashed, it needs all the things a scout that’s been sitting in a back yard for 10 years needs so I get after it. Paint via a China freight electric spray gun and some exterior paint, tires and wheels, and an entirely new fuel system.

Deployed for 6 months...

When I got back I completely rewired it and started working the details, fluids, bearings, seals, little stuff.

Did the hydroboost which is GREAT, have never had this good of brakes in a Scout. Full rewire, welded the rear, shock towers for the front, went through everything and replaced the rusted out rocker panels with square tube etc. etc. etc.

bought a 2000 chevy 2500 work truck with an LQ4 and NV4500 for the motor, trans and 14 bolt rear end. Stripped it for parts and to make some $$$ back, took the frame and cab to the crusher

This obviously is going to be the best scout I’ve ever owned but ultimately it’s for my lil monsters. They love how it stinks and to cruise around the neighborhood in it while driving and shifting from my lap. I’m just trying to show them how they can get out of the house and build something with their own two hands

Cam and springs installed. Dana 300 received and installed AA adapter kit. Using Anything Scout motor mounts and they are nice!

The anything scout motor mounts are great, test for the motor and then burned em in. 67-69 Camaro radiator looks like it will work great, got the fuel system plumbed. Ended up going with an in-line walbro 392. Got the fuel tank resealed and plumbed, wheeled with buddies, ordered body bushing since I’m there, pulled broken manifold bolts out of the heads etc..

Got the harness in from Wayne at 150tunes and it looks great. Got the crossmember goodies from TMR customs.

Fuck plumbing a fuel system.

It’s plumbed. I made my life harder by routing it through the frame and building heat shields. I also dropped the tank to reseal it’s. Yea. Fuck that. I hope it doesn’t leak. Don’t wanna do it again.

Tunnel, firewall and full interior floor is covered in lizard skin. I’m sure nuns will die and somewhere a fairy lost its wings because I brushed it in. It doesn’t look the best but I’m not spending $100 on a gun and having to borrow a compressor for a 2 hour job. Motor is in, steering box gusset is welded in, box is in, hydroboost plumbed. Harness is in and 75% wired in. Loving the progress! I want to be out in the scout again!

apparently 63” chevys aren’t designed to hold a heavy ass 345/T-19/D20. Ended up selling to a local scout guy.

ok finally drug build thread over from Pirate.

Scout runs and is all back together and painted. i broke the bellhousing installing the NV4500 because i was given the wrong bearing from Napa (still my fault) and tried to shove it in but the snout of the input shaft couldnt go all the way in. the sealed pilot bearing that came with the clutch kit used the external recess on the crank but the original roller bearing used the internal recess on the crank ended up ordering a new pilot bearing and bellhousing and now it is all back togther. Couldnt get the Wilwood clutch master properly bled so i removed all the clutch hydraulics to bleed on the bench and ended up breaking the master reintstalling... a new one is ordered with more throw.

below will just be a smattering of update pics

got bored today, made a simple bumper that will eventually get some flush mounted lights and a hitch
