Running those safety chains over the top of the tow bar is a sure-fire way to kill those nuns... don't know how I missed this update when it happened.

It's one way to make sure that the bus stops if the tow bar gets disconnected...

Another way is that when that air line pops off, the brake valve would pop as well (unless plumbed directly to the brake chamber, as I believe he did, so it would be an instant application of the spring brake).

IIRC the blue line is usually service brakes, and red is usually parking brakes, if that is correct and that is how it was plumbed, the service brakes would disconnect but the parking brake would not apply until the orange air hose was stretched all the way out.

We'll have to get him back in here to describe the air system he set up, as I can't tell clearly from the pics exactly what is going on.

Air line merely operated #30 service chambers on the drive axle for braking assistance. Worked as needed. That is all.

Can't seem to get the video to upload all the way here, but I did finally get the large mouse/rat on camera while it was gnawing at the hole in the front of a bed rail.

Here be why the wipers malfunctioned again. We've been spraying peppermint oil in our idle vehicles to ward off the rodents. I didn't get behind the cluster in time to save any wiring. At least it only got to the wiper wires.

I'm going to have to order another glowshift gauge harness. I tried the maxtow harness out my Ford and it doesn't match.

Finally got around to checking for a power supply that doesn't cut off during cranking. I'll be powering all the Glowshift gauges off of this side somewhere. Often, on any Navistar system, you really need to see what's going on while cranking.

Tab above my thumb stays hot with KO.

Patched up the wiper board/relay wires and they're up and running. Headlights are working again as well, but I need to track down the problem yet.

Not sure which is worse. Previous owners, or mice? Pulling out dead end wires and #17 in the pink is to the crank relay. Looks like another wire that somebody's boot tore off so they spliced a patch that lays across the doghouse.:shaking:

Found that a rat is still tearing up stuff in the cab. Since it's been sticking its nose out of the bed rail hole, I figured it has a nest in there.

Dropped the tailgate, pulled the tail light, mixed some acetone and oil in a pump sprayer, and soaked in enough that I could ignite it and blow it up. Mostly worked. Turns out at this has been the critter that was stealing our house insulation.

Started taking the rest of the wing plow mounts off.

Mount weld that didn't have much life left.

And after. It's getting much easier to crawl under the truck to fix everything else. Really nice to have the Milwaukee high-torque impact for this. It's peeling bolts out that were taking me all day before.

Last plate came out without removing the toolbox. Not sure how much weight all that dropped. I can probably legally haul 23k now

You plan on putting bolts back in those holes?
When I was taking them out, I strongly considered torquing some new ones in. I'm think of fabbing up another battery tray for the passenger side and possibly something to mount in place of where the wing plow brackets were.

There's bolts holes all over the chassis, so lots of pre-drilled places to mount stuff. I've got a few ideas, but they'll take time.

why? i can think of ways that wouldn't be helpful, but none that are.

maybe huck bolts, maybe. i hear of people welding holes, more bolts etc, but usually more harm than good.
Why what? It was just a curiosity question.

nice deep tires

properly torqued bolts supposedly make the holes less of a stress riser than leaving them open, where welding them up is the worst thing you can do

I'm doing no good at updating any of my vehicle threads here, lately.

Took these last night. Truck still runs and drives, but I've got a relay in the back that's randomly clicking and causing the trans control pad to restart on occasion.

Rat(s) had gotten way to close to the TCM harness for comfort. No severed wires. Just some light snacking. Gotta cruise through the schematic again to figure out where these head to.

stupid question but can you spray them with something to prevent that?

Some type of poisin or some shit that repulses the rats?

Sure can, though they don't work long. I've been hosing both this truck and my Subaru with peppermint oil. Lasts about a day. There's supposed to be an electrical tape made with cayenne pepper that keeps rodents off. I haven't looked it up to order any and haven't felt like taking the time to wrap the bazillion miles of wiring on either pile.

All this rodent damage took place last year. One rat pair that have been chewing damn near everything up.

We started off with poison cakes. This did nothing but feed the rats. Interwebs said raisins will explode their kidneys. This did nothing but feed them. But!.... we found that raisins in the mouse and rat traps would catch them nearly every time. The raisins are tough enough that they have to tug at them, which trips the trap and crushes their skull rather satisfyingly. Snapped two more mice in the house today with this method.
