So my buddy is selling me a 93 bluebird schoolbus with some upgrades. Its from the "Sobe love bus tour" 99-06, one of 8 busses that traveled around the US doing sobe lifestyle events. So its still wrapped, has all the stickers, folding rooftop platform, thule rocketboxes, 193K miles, runs good, just started right up after sitting 3-4 months, has all new brakes, but needs tires and basic fluid changes from sitting. The interior has black carpeting, a futon and little dinette area already. Theres a non- running onan generator.

Im gonna get it, but he said do some research on pricing. He threw out $8k, which i think might be too high. He paid $6k and had a mobile mechanic come do the brakes. Its got the dt466/ allison.

Is he high/ low on price? Any problem areas or things i should check out or pay attention to? General run down/ ideas on these?
Also any recommendations on parts suppliers, useful upgrades, suggestions are welcome (even if its to drink bleach). Are there any questions i should be asking that im not?

Plan is to fix up/ convert (build thread?) for living out of full time next year working in Cali. Whatever work it needs ill do myself at his place.

What Allison specifically?

AT545 is non lock up, Mt643 is what you'd want.

I'm no help on pricing, I'm cheap. Looks like you're paying for the platform and non-running genset. Otherwise it's a high mileage bus.

Cool, ill find out on the trans. Thanks for the info. Would it be a deal breaker on the non lockup you think? So lowball him at $2k lol? I was thinking the rarity doesnt matter, might be more work than its worth.

Not sure it's a deal breaker, but definitely something to consider. I'd price out similar buses, and see where that puts you.

Way too much. I looked up its info on the Bluebird Vantage Portal using the bdoy number. Looks like hydraulic brakes, not what I'd want because air brakes are way better. Unfortunately it's pre internet days so the transmission info didn't make it over to the Bluebird Portal. I'll look up that info in Navistar tomorrow on my work laptop using the VIN.

Navistar says that VIN is a DT360, not a 466. Rated at 170 HP and 400 lb/ft torque. And an Allison AT545, and hydraulic brakes.

Way, way overpriced. DT466, MT643, and air brakes would be maybe $4k.

Since it's a 93, I'll 99% say it's a non lockup, non overdrive miserable turd to drive, it's going to turn fuel into heat and noise
