Central California
What is it worth? I get that it varies by location and my location in Central California is among the most expensive. I am just looking for opinions as I have been out of the Toyota scene for a while now.
This is the write up that I have been working on putting together. I am missing a ton of shit I am sure but these are the basics.
1992 Toyota Extra Cab
3.4 Swap with California Bar Sticker (Legal)
R150 Transmission
Marlin Crawler Dual Case Transfer Cases - 4.7/2.8
Truck has 174,xxx miles on the speedo. Read below for drivetrain
Engine
3.4 Swap from a 1997 4Runner
Swap is done well. Not hacked together. Uses the 97 Runner ECU and the harness was repinned for the manual transmission. It passes California smog with no issues. No check engine lights ever. I replaced the O2 sensors and most of all the consumable parts when the swap was done. Motor mounts were new Toyota, etc.
The 4Runner I bought for the donor had a motor replacement at a Toyota dealer @ 133,382 miles. Toyota replaced the short block with a NEW replacement. Fuel injection was purged and cleaned and heads were redone as well. The 4Runner was then wrecked with 159,967 on the odometer and I bought it from the person who wrecked it. Since the swap, this truck has about 8k miles on it. It almost never gets driven and almost never on the street. Engine doesn’t have more than about 35k or so on it.
I have the receipts and paperwork to confirm all of the above.
Transmission
R150
Not much to say. Everything works perfectly. Always ran with Redline MT-90. Marlin bushing on the shifter to keep it tight.
Transfer Cases
Dual Cases with Marlin Crawler V6 Adapter for the R150 Transmission. Marlin Crawler 10° adapter. Marlin Crawler flanges. All brand new Toyota bearings when cases were built.
2.8 stock gears and 4.7 Marlin Crawler COMPETITION gears. NOT the standard 4.7 set.
There are literally zero miles on the cases. Never been run or even driven with other than moving it around the driveway and down the street a couple times.
Davez Off Road Triple Shifter for transfer cases. Same as above. No miles. Brand new.
Front Axle:
Trail Gear Rock Assault Housing
Trail Gear Chromoly Birfields and axles
Six Shooter Knuckles and Arms
All ARP studs
Trail Gear High Steer
Elocker Differential
Rear Axle:
Trail Gear Rock Assault IFS Width Housing
Rear Disc Brakes
Elocker Differential
Straight Axle Swap done correctly. Trail Gear springs. Davez Off Road “No Death Wobble” shackles. Bilstein 5150 shocks.
Trail Gear front and rear bumpers
B&M transmission cooler on power steering lines
2” Body Lift - This could come off or at least taken to 1”. Was put on to clear the 3.4 motor but there are other options. Just haven’t done it.
Inside: I added the power windows and locks from a donor vehicle that I came across. All Toyota parts and everything works perfectly. Manual oil pressure gauge because the factory one is crap.
This truck was built for my son and then we had some health issues in the family about the time it was getting done and into its current state. After that, he didn’t have any appetite for wheeling at all and it has literally been sitting on the side of my house.
I ended up doing a 3.4 swap for a guy who used to work for Trail Gear and I traded all the work for most all the parts on this truck. That is why it’s TG this and TG that. Anything that needed a bearing or a seal is Marlin or Toyota. I have a stack of receipts to show pretty much everything.
Great truck and works really, really well but I'm into other interests now and a rock crawler doesn't really fit.
Couple bad things:
Windshield is cracked
Tires are crap from sitting. They hold air without issue but I wouldn't wheel with them for sure.
4.11 ratios - I do have a set of 5.29 Yukon gears and setup kit that I bought from Marlin brand new that I would sell with it for a little extra. You’ll have to source the other set.
