It seems we lost a ton of pics in this after the forum crash n burn thing years ago? I dunno but I'm redoing some pics...

had been daily driving this for 20 odd years up till now ish...

I lost the original post sooooo...

I got this thing as a parts chaser when i got the 67....
1740102294295.jpeg

was bone stock...
needed a tranny when i got it and grenaded output bearing coming back from frisco...
new tranny is in the works (now here's where the addiction part comes in) why not put the double transfer case in?

At this point I really didn't think the snowball was forming so I did not take pics of the parts trucks yet...

Buy a Junker #2 yank the x fer case get an adapter and a new tranny. shit this is purty nice.
now i need lockers f/r.
enter truck#3.

Somewhere along the line I swapped to a v6 carrier rear and an fj hi pinion front...

Truck #3 is axle donor...

yank the new axles with arb's (read air posi) bolt it together after pulling it apart to see what i got, looks good.
wheel it like this fer a while... crap now i need low range gearing in the transfer case #2(again addict) buy truck #4 the blue one... new double transfer case's with 4.7:1 gearset, with 4.10:1 this goes to a final reduction of @ 173:1... 3 grand in low makes 1.5 mph.

My build thread was/is on the shovelhead.us site, but I never hauled it here.
Sooooo
Here we go... :flipoff2:

Then this lumbered into the shop for some lift enhancement for towing a toy hauler...
Gotta pay the bills right.

Yea 1 side was tight the other was draggin on the pin....
the trucker girls rock rings I got off the other place way back when.
the big tire taco I got while I was doing the re conversion and A.C. install , front hanger and rufs, nos old school Bobby Longfeild birfs and shafts in the front.
I'd been squirreling away parts, now was time for the big changes.
From here on out I am just photo dumping into this thread because you can only post 10 per post so some are out of sequence.

Most all of the above was/is from the biker site, and I edited out most of the superfluous stuff...I lost alot of the first pics of the big mods in that thread to a server crash, they were the lift and sliders and bumpers for the most part.
We'll pick up here on 2025 shit going forward.

Here's today's crap.

After the wrights lake snow run.
Heard bubbles in the recovery tank went I would shut it off.
I took a crapshoot it would last till I made it home and won.
Runners 1-4 had standing fuel lakes.
All 4 are carboned up.
#3 was sucking water.
All this @ 21k of full longblock rebuild...

I.B.B. Warning
Avoid Selby and sons Machine shop in Sant Rosa ca.

funny the sound of dripping water in this one... :cool:cool

Do the other pistons have the ring gaps inline? 🤦‍♂️

All 4

See post 15
# 3 had a small gap stagger less' n an inch...

That is cool watching the progress. Looking forward to an update. I think OCD but uninformed people think it would be logical to line them up. You know keep things tidy!

The head that was on it aint happy, the cam won't turn with the rockers removed.
I have another 15 bolt head, looks like the block deck is flat.
Gunna take both heads to my machinist and go thru 1 and pray.
New glazebreaker in hand, freshen up the rings, gasket match and polish the intake.

Just don't ask Marlin for a bumper..... :grinpimp:
For funzies, the truck and winch are both from 1983...
Thanx bud

#2 cam journal was coked up badly.
Gasket matched the plenum/lower and cleaned up the mating surfaces.

5 Cent egr blockoff plate.
1000007329.jpg

Grenading the head to blend the ports, some ugly casting flash on this one...

1000007325.jpg

Waiting on rings, lapped the valves and de carboned the exhaust ports.
1000007324.jpg

About time you posted something again. I was getting ready to post another intermission gif today just for you... :flipoff2:

Shit, it's been a daily driver for the last 5 years.
Aint supposed to be working on it after the build.

1000007333.jpg

Should be raining the rest of the week, I'll be thrashing on it.
Just the ring and valve job.

Bottom end is buttoned up, waiting for the stealership to deliver an undamaged head gasket.
Need to finish the exhaust ports and do the throttle body and find some zink additive for the oil.
Anyone ever knife edge the butterfly on an re?

So , a psa for cavemen doing a pre 85 22r/e:laughing:
My 83 celica 22re head has the injectors situated different than the 85/6 plenum.
Apparently that contributed to the puddeled fuel in the lower #1-4 runners in post #9.
So here's the gasket match details, notice that #2-3 shown in black sharpie, are the 83 injection port pockets.
#1-3 cleared, but I opened them up to straighten the flow.
